In the nation's capital, a transit system exists that is actually useful. The DC Metro system is an extensive transit system connecting DC and the surrounding area.
On a personal note, I lived in the DC area for 8 years and relied on the Metro. There are certainly problems and I'm not as impressed with the architecture, I have to agree, it is very useful.
