In many ways these proposed rules are a real step forward, and we shouldn't lose sight of that. The obligation on railways to make tickets available to platforms on fair terms will help create the conditions for better more comprehensive ticketing platforms to emerge. It is likely that this will make it easier to find and purchase tickets. Furthermore, it will be *possible* to travel on many more journeys with rights than before. That’s good! But, it still doesn’t *guarantee* rights for all journeys and it comes with unnecessary conditions that limit passengers and can lead to absurd situations.
Rights should not be tied to how or where you bought your tickets. That provision needs to be dropped from the proposal for it to really deliver for passengers.

Viaggiare in Europa in treno tra paesi diversi è un'esperienza poco piacevole, soprattutto quando bisogna acquistare i biglietti, perché ogni operatore ha un sistema diverso: se il percorso richiede più treni di operatori diversi, il viaggiatore deve prendere biglietti diversi per un solo viaggio.
Su questo punto sta intervenendo l'Unione Europea con delle nuove regole, che costringeranno gli operatori a offrire biglietti unici che comprendano le tratte di operatori diversi, semplificando molto l'acquisto.
Tutto bene quindi? Quasi: come riportato da @erpu (seguiteli!), si poteva fare di più: per come saranno le cose, i biglietti acquistati avranno garanzie diverse seconda dell'operatore usato.

Today the European Commission published their proposal for reformed legislation for railway ticketing and passenger rights, dubbed the “Passenger Package.” It is very ambitious but from a #CrossBorderRail passenger perspective there are many questions.

We are working on a detailed summary of what the proposal contains and what that means for passengers. But, here is the short version: The commission has good intentions but their plan falls woefully short. Making rights contingent on how and where you bought your tickets is not good enough.

Eurostat got back to me! tl;dr: I was right.
“The user raises a valid methodological point. […] This wording may give the impression of unique international passengers or unique cross-border journeys. However, international passenger counts may include both outgoing and incoming movements and therefore carry a risk of double counting at EU aggregate level.”

Det är alltid smart att kolla priset både på Vy Sverige och Vy Norge (eller att byta region i appen och göra sökningen två gånger). Ibland kan priset skilja sig väldigt mycket för samma avgång!

The little Hobbit is still a bit sick so I don't expect to do much of a review.
For now though: comfy seats, functional info system, lots of luggage space and a truly surprising amount of legroom. It's not often you can have a folded stroller in front of your legs.
Basically: #DSB sell or repurpose your Talgo units and order a couple of these things right now! Your passengers demand it!

Meanwhile the DSB Talgo trains running the same route have a broken coffee-machine and exposed 230v outlets as the height of children's entertainment.
How can two brand new types of rolling stock, running the same long distance route at the same inflated ticket costs, be so inherently different?
Where did it all go wrong #DSB?!?

A brief report on the previous #CrossBorderRail leg of this journey from Barcelona to Paris:
This was the first time I've taken the Intercités de Nuit to Paris from Cerbère, having gone the other way a couple of times. All good, and you don't have to rely on the #Rodalies at the other end.
Speaking of which, I took the earlier departure from Barcelona to connect with the sleeper, not wishing to trust that the service due into Cerbère at 6pm would arrive in time for the 7pm departure north.
Of course, the 4pm arrival was terminated at Port Bou, this fact announced to us on arrival. "You can take the French train," they said. Of course, because we had arrived late the next TER departure was after the following #Renfe one. 😂🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
On the plus side I did get to visit the memorial to @WalterBenjamin

TIL: Mit der "TGV INOUI PRO"-App kann man Reservierungen, die bei Rail Europe gekauft wurden und sonst nicht bei :sncf_connect: CONNECT digitalisiert werden konnten, trotzdem digitalisiert werden.
Danach kann man die Reservierung sogar in die gängigen Wallets werfen und auch direkt in der App umtauschen/stornieren, ohne, dass man einen französischen Fahrkartenautomaten braucht 🤯
Des weiteren kann der Sitzplatz über eine grafische Sitzplatzwahl ausgesucht werden 😲😲😲
Nachteil: die App kann nur französisch (oder ich bin der Sprache nicht genug mächtig, um die Einstellung zu finden) und man braucht ein SNCF-Konto (oder ich bin der Sprache nicht genug mächtig, um das zu überspringen)

Koleje Śląskie (Silesian Railways) are taking the opportunity provided by engineering works around Katowice entering a new phase to address some passenger complaints with out-of-cycle timetable tweaks - this includes fixing a couple of glaringly dumb-looking broken connections from Slovakia in Zwardoń - the weekend-only Salmopol (to Gliwice via Bielsko-Biała, Chybie, Żory, Rybnik, Knurów) will be delayed to connect to train 4426 arriving 17:48, while on working days, train 94784 to Katowice will be delayed to connect with train 4430 arriving 19:48 (currently, these trains only connect on weekends - on working days, the 98784 was scheduled to depart just as the 4430 was arriving!). This is a major correction, as the original spring schedule would have left a massive gap with no onward departure on weekdays until 21:01 - more than halfway until the next train in the Slovak Takt! Rynek Kolejowy also interviewed the CEO of the newly created Lubuski Transport Publiczny, the Lubusz Voivodeship's idea for a train and bus operating company. The headline and lead float the idea that they could get started with the Lubsko and Międzychód lines that are being reactivated, though the topic isn't really expanded on in the article itself - and the position of LTP's CEO seems to be that it is currently more important to get timetables on the existing lines into shape, with a mininum being 2 h Takt on the local lines and 1 h Takt on the main lines. They are aiming receive the necessary safety certification for running trains by the end of this year and carve out maintenance space somewhere in Czerwieńsk - whether they manage a deal to take over the existing facilities from PKP CargoTabor or not.

Ok. We're ten minutes away from Kolding / my little Hobbit and their mom @juliette
Quick summary of what I think of the DSB Talgo train: when it gets out of beta it'll be a decent yet boring train for trips of an hour or so.
For this route, where many people are inside for five to six hours, it's absolutely the wrong train. Uncomfortably, not capable of dealing with overflow & tiring (loud, no nooks).
Edit: "the wrong train" but much better than flying etc.
