The app is for configuring some fancy remote control from #flirc, the "skip 1s". It requires this proprietary app, of course. They release a "Linux" version in an appimage. It doesn't work.

I even stooped as low as I'm willing to go and installed Windows 10 in a VM without inet access. Their app won't install without having inet access to download more stuff.

I have never tried so hard in all of my life to configure a universal remote.

Yeesh. The #geekworm Pi case gets real hot even without much load. Problem is that the BOTTOM gets hot as well. Scared to leave it on my desk. I'm using the base of the #flirc case as a "coaster" until I can figure out a better solution. Real surprised it doesn't come with teensy risers.

@dhrystone Interesting, since I just did the same with one of my Pis (#Flirc to #geekworm). Did it so I could have a Pi4 with GPIO pins exposed

Switched out the #RaspberryPi #FLIRC passive cooling case for a #Geekworm armor case, also passive. Wow. Difference in temp is impressive. Running overclocked (overvoltage 4, arm_freq 1900) and idle at ~53°C right now, other case had it at high 60’s. Will be interesting to see how it performs at load. And yes I know active cooling is better. It’s also mechanical, and louder. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Heute kam ich wieder ein bisschen zum #basteln. Die Infrastruktur um die #t0nybox ist etwas ausgebaut und die erste Karte in der Version 1 (locked #QR) ist fertig. Die Karten werden nun nach Aufnahme in die Kartenverwaltung freigeschalten.

Kleinere Optimierung: #sshfs wird nun per #autofs on #demand gemounted. Timeout: 3600 Sekunden. Das wird etwas Last vom Filer nehmen, wenn der Prototyp nicht mehr alleine ist. :-)

Looking for some advice regarding options for the home media center.

I'm running a NAS that has Plex server happily running on it but I noticed when playing videos on end devices it transcodes often and the transcoding is slow on the NAS which seems to be a common issue.

I'm looking to offload that work. I was thinking of setting up a SFF/MiniITX PC or piece of hardware that does transcoding well and simply install the Plex app and target the Plex server for data. I have a spare GPU I can use already if necessary. I also saw there are devices like the NVIDIA shield. I was thinking for this device it would simply need some GPU w/NVENC or Intel CPU w/QuickSync. Am I missing any options?

If I do go with the SFF/MiniITX build I would need a remote. I was thinking maybe the FLIRC receiver and a legacy remote. Any better options for that?

Lastly does it make sense to skip the Plex server and mount the media directly on either the SFF or NVIDIA Shield, sync the data every so often, and then transcode locally off faster disks? If so is it easy to get a shell or OS-level access on the Shield?

Das #Remote Script nimmt nun auch einige "System #QR Codes" an. 🙂

Updates gehen damit dann so einfach wie ein Lied starten.
