Has anyone ever had a programming/maths problem that they think is cool/interesting, but never really got around to solving?

Came across mention of some ray-tracing paper recently and I am reminded of one of mine (idea that I'd been putting on the long finger, rather than a paper).

Anyway, Elite, the video game. Is there a structure that could be used to encode for hidden surface removal without needing to explicitly encode surface normals? It should also, surely, be able to avoid multiplication (a la Bresenham) to provide a really quick/smooth rendering on 6502/similar which doesn't have native multiplication...

(A deep dive into the annotated source code is another one of those things I've been meaning to get around to...)

At the end of all of this effort is the EU/NATO goal of a fully operational war against Russia

No reasonable person in the EU wants this outcome, no ordinary citizen in the U.K wants war with Russia and only a tiny percentage of Americans would support it.

However, 80% of the British/EU political class and around 75% of the Washington DC political class would immediately welcome this outcome.

Europe is burning through their spending of the confiscated €300 billion Russian sovereign wealth fund. The money will be completely gone within a year as it is the funding mechanism for almost all Ukraine support.

When you think about this in very practical terms, this makes the EU war against Russia a foregone conclusion.

In my opinion, the decision to spend that confiscated Russian asset wealth is what changed in early June when Zelenskyy visited King Charles in London. What was once avoidable is now ultimately only a matter of time.

Unless someone is willing to step into the finance side and repay Russia, a western conflict with the Russian Federation to avoid the issue seems to be the overwhelming likelihood.

In the interim, Eastern Ukraine remains a meat grinder.

Is Israel Planning to Assassinate President Trump?

In January 2012, Andrew Adler, the owner and publisher of a small weekly newspaper called the Atlanta Jewish Times, sparked considerable controversy when he penned an article titled ‘What Would You Do?’ in which he put forth three possible responses Israel might pursue if Iran were to acquire a nuclear weapon. The first two — pre-emptive strikes on Hezbollah and Hamas and disobeying the US Secretary of Defense to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities — failed to raise any eyebrows. Adler’s third suggestion, however, would result in his immediate resignation as editor and the subsequent sale of his newspaper:

“Three, give the go-ahead for U.S.-based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place, and forcefully dictate that the United States policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies. Yes, you read “three” correctly. Order a hit on a president in order to preserve Israel’s existence. Think about it. If I have thought of this Tom Clancy-type scenario, don’t you think that this almost unfathomable idea has been discussed in Israel’s most inner circles?… You have got to believe, like I do, that all options are on the table.“

Almost immediately, the article became headline news around the country forcing major Jewish organizations like the ADL and AJC to feign indignation, and within a week the US Secret Service had launched an ‘investigation’ into the matter while a teary-eyed Adler appeared on the Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasting network’s cable TV show to disavow his column and explain that he actually held a favorable view of President Obama!

Adler’s straight-talk, shocking though it may seem to some, provides crucial insight into the mentality of God’s chosen people and the candor they often use when speaking amongst themselves. Killing a foreign or domestic head of state who presents a perceived obstacle to the preservation of fragile little Israel is not unknown to history, as any reader of Laurent Guyenot’s indispensable book The Unspoken Kennedy Truth or Ronen Bergman’s 2018 bestseller Rise and Kill First: The Secret History of Israel’s Targeted Assassinations can assure you.

It only just now occurred to me that the gory public execution of Charlie Kirk was also meant to terrify Donald Trump, which it seems to have done very profoundly. Ofc, there are many other motives for having murdered Kirk. Recall that Netanyahu publicly presented Trump with an Israeli cell phone, which everyone with brains read as an ostentatious threat on Trump’s life. The topmost levels of world power are always Kill-Or-Be-Killed (KOBK), pure savagery, winner take all. Deep infiltration and apex parasitism are brutal KOBK strategies. #ICE to Pay #LexisNexis Millions for Data to Feed to #Palantir

#Immigration and #Customs Enforcement (#ICE ) plans to pay LexisNexis millions more dollars for continued access to data it can feed into a Palantir platform, according to newly published procurement records. The data is to help, among other sections, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (#ERO ), the part of ICE focused on #deportation.

The documents provide some more insight into the sort of information ICE intends to use Palantir to process. In January, 404 Media revealed the existence of #ELITE , a system Palantir made for ICE that helps the agency find which neighborhoods to target by bringing together data from private suppliers and government agencies.

A violent public murder is an act of terrorism and should be recognized as such. The Kirk murder was staged to cause fear and despair. A dead giveaway is the concerted, frantic attempt to convict Tyler Robinson before he has had a fair trial and answered the evidence against him. How often does that happen in the real world? If Charlie were your brother or friend wouldn’t you want to be certain the accused is guilty? The JFK assassination is still being covered up. Paradise Lost: How African Migrants Made Millions on Filthy Medicaid Homes Where Disabled Mainers Were Abused

State records show Paradise Residential Services, an autism agency run by “New Mainers” from Central Africa, violated disability rights while earning $25 million under MaineCare.

Paradise Residential Services CEO Jocelyne Ininahazwe and her family enjoyed luxury Mercedes brands while the disabled Mainers who relied on the Medicaid agency for 24/7 care were living in squalor, subject to abuse and neglect by non-English speaking staff, including some who were untrained and never subjected to background checks.

That’s the chief takeaway from documents released Friday by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), including a termination letter to Paradise that cited “violations [that] place the health and safety of MaineCare Members in immediate jeopardy.”

“[Paradise Residential Services] failed to ensure individuals are protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, specifically, lack of food, spoiled food, unsanitary conditions in the home, broken glass throughout basement, individuals have been repeatedly left without staff, staff not supervising or providing services,” according to the DHHS letter.

Records show Paradise Residential Services, terminated in March for failing to protect disabled Mainers from abuse, was founded by five investors: Jocelyne Ininahazwe, Juste Arakaza, Tresor Niyongabo, Enock Nijimbere Tshibungu, and Eric Nshimiyimana.

For a relatively small upfront investment, the crew of “New Mainers” hauled in $25M from 2022 to 2025. They were billing $400k per patient. That’s $800k in annual revenue for every middle class home they purchased..

I wanted to explore the feeling of being completely alone on a planet. It's a feeling I got from the game Elite, an MMO which maps out the entire galaxy and you can actually fly to and land everywhere. The known parts of the galaxy are based on real astronomy data, the rest is generated. You can even travel to Sagittarius A, the black hole at the center of it, but it takes real life weeks. I never did it because apparently there are griefers hanging out there, that will kill you instantly when you arrive. It's a very cool game though, I've never felt so lonely in a game as being very far away from civilization on some distant world just discovering ancient Alien ruins and stuff like that. It's actually not a terrible feeling, but a quite cool one. You feel a bit special and chosen and stuff like that. It's the feeling I guess people who do science in antarctica will feel, but obviously I bet they feel it more intensely. Plus the sound in that game is excellent and will give Star Wars a run for its money.

This planet also feels lonely like that sometimes, and completely desolate and broken.

JOHN NICHOLS: I sure can. I’m delighted to do it, because the fact of the matter is that our national media too often focuses on the top-line races and misses the real dynamic, which you start to recognize is when you go down-ballot and you look at contests for U.S. House seats and for legislative seats.

And if you look in Michigan, what you’re seeing is, with Will Lawrence, an example of a real breakthrough win for a young candidate who ran a campaign on dynamic, fresh issues, including data centers. With #DonavanMcKinney, that’s still a close race. There are votes still to be counted there. But this is an incredible thing, because this is a candidate who didn’t have anywhere near the kind of money that his opponent did, and yet, with a real grassroots campaign on the ground there in Detroit and that region, ran very, very well.

And if we move beyond Michigan and you look around the country, what you’re going to see is that Tuesday night was a very good night for insurgent candidacies and for outsiders. In the #Missouri governor’s race, what you saw was kind of a remarkable result. #CindyHolscher, who’s a state senator out there and came from the outside — she wasn’t backed by the sitting governor, she wasn’t backed by a lot of Democratic Party leaders, and yet she won her primary for governor. And she did it by talking, again, about data centers and making that a very central part of her campaign. We’re starting to see a thread here. "

Mexican drug lord ‘had beauty influencer shot dead by hitman during live TikTok stream after she split up with his son’

A Mexican drug lord ordered a hitman to kill a beauty influencer because she had broken up with his son, authorities have claimed. 

Valeria Marquez was live streaming to her followers from inside her beauty salon, Blossom the Beauty Lounge, in Zapopan, the western Mexican state of Jalisco, when a motorbike-riding gunman opened fire last May.

Prosecutors are now accusing Ramon Angel Alvarez Ayala, a senior figure in the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) – considered to be one of Mexico‘s most powerful criminal organisations, of ordering her murder, as well as a local mayor’s.

Ayala – more commonly known as ‘El R1’ – was captured in a special forces operation on Thursday after a car chase in Jalisco, which saw a member of his security team killed.

Omar Garcia Harfuch, the federal security secretary, has gone on to further claim that El R1’s son, Francisco Alvarez, who had been in a relationship with Marquez, phoned his father to organise the hit after their relationship ended. 

The cartel leader allegedly ordered the hitman to enter Marquez’s salon, posing as a delivery driver, where he then asked for the 23-year-old TikToker and aesthetician to confirm her identity.
