And that’s a wrap on #CleanAirDay 2026! Thank you to every single one of you who got involved this year. In particular, we’d like to thank our funders cleanairfund.bsky.social, Net Zero Scotland, and Philips UK, for making this year’s Clean Air Day possible.

In preparation for #CleanAirDay, Dr Malcolm White, our Senior Clean Air Specialist, journeyed to Whips Cross Hospital yesterday to deliver an air pollution training to early career Resident Doctors working at Barts NHS Trust.

The Mayor of #London, Sadiq Khan, has announced a further £6 million for the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund on #CleanAirDay, marking the 70th anniversary of the Clean Air Act. London boroughs will be able to apply later this summer for funding to support local projects aimed at reducing air pollution.

Since its launch, the fund has allocated £27 million across four rounds, supporting more than 100 projects, including clean air routes, electric vehicle charging points, cycle #infrastructure, school streets and #emissions reduction schemes. A further £20 million has been contributed by boroughs and partners.

The announcement comes as London reports nitrogen dioxide levels within legal limits for the first time. The Mayor said continued investment in cleaner transport, air quality monitoring and local initiatives would help further improve public #health and reduce pollution across the capital.

In honour of #CleanAirDay, we joined the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea at Holy Trinity School yesterday afternoon for an assembly on air pollution and to walk the class through their Breathe London sensor.

That would be nice, eh?! Not many days or places we get to breathe clean air. But that’s what Clean Air Day is all about: Using our voices to raise awareness and help to clean up our air.

Recognised by the UK Government and the World Health Organisation as the largest environmental threat to our health, air pollution is associated with around 30,000 deaths a year in the UK alone.

Run by environmental charity @GlobalActionPlan this day is an opportunity to focus our attention on air pollution and help public understanding.

For those of us with chronic breathing impairment, this is one of the most important days of the year. While those who assume they're unaffected by air pollution accept business as usual, we realize that all our lungs and brains are harmed every day we breath fouled air.

Air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to the health of the planet and its people. It causes approximately seven million premature deaths annually and countless illnesses. Air pollution also accelerates climate change, causes economic losses, and reduces agricultural productivity.

The United Nations General Assembly designated the first International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, also known as World Clean Air Day, in 2019. Its 6th annual observance will be on September 7, 2025
