Anyone #blind ever went deep down the sampler rabbit hole? @KaraLG84 you perhaps?
I'd be curious if any hardware devices are #accessible enough to operate without sight with some degree of efficiency. I've played with lower-end stuff like the #Chompi, and while that device is fun, it does have some rather strict limitations. Ableton Move does this up to a point but I don't love the way the time-stretching algorithms, or lack there of, shorten samples as they're pitched up, unless you can switch that somehow :) -
There aren't enough videos of 1960's portable tape recorders so I fixed that.
And fixed the device.
Then improvised with it.

Apparently there’s a lot of anti-hype about the Chompi where people are saying it’s “just a toy”. The way I have heard about this is through comments of people saying thanks for making videos to show it is NOT just a toy.

more #chompi chomps. this time, experimented with getting a little more arrange-y by recording a base track (the intro/outro) then recording a few melodic variations on top of that. some very basic #ableton work to stitch the various samples together.
drum loops again credit to the drum broker and the sample pack. great stuff.

some late night #chompi. a chill, lush beat that almost didn't go this direction.
layers in order they were laid down:
- drums (great sample from The Drum Broker, I can't remember who tho)
- that funky off-key bass
- the lush ahhhhs
- the ring-y bellI have some other variations where I tried to plop a melody on top but it got way too busy/muddy. This version was just right:

new #chompi #synth track for the likely-never-to-be-released videogame just add meat: the chill shop. here our adventurers can buy items to make themselves look cooler.
side note: i need to figure out where all that noise on the line is coming from. pretty sure it's somewhere early in the eurorack setup. there are so many dang hops in the chain, so lots of possible entry points.

the tape-style looper and overdub workflow just makes sense - just keep layering. if something doesn't work out, revert to the previous.

My #chompi arrived yesterday, and it is **absolutely delightful**.
Ops & workflow just makes sense, which makes it such a neat little tool for experimentation/ideation. Build quality is over 9000; it FEELS like a solid, reliable tool to jam on. Form factor is nice and portable (rechargeable battery!) - I could see me taking this on trips. And it's super cute, too.
