  1. Dropkick Murphys Take A Stand Against Tyranny With New Single

Dropkick Murphys have officially released their powerful new single, “Citizen I.C.E.” (featuring Haywire), a reimagined version of their 2005 classic “Citizen C.I.A.” The track serves as a centerpiece for their upcoming 12” split LP, New England Forever. Accompanied by a message of solidarity and a call to raise consciousness against tyranny, the band is using their platform to speak out against social injustice.

Fans can find the vinyl exclusively during the For The People…In The Pit St. Patrick’s Day Tour, which kicked off this week on February 9. The trek, featuring support from The Aggrolites and Haywire, runs through March 17, culminating in the band’s legendary annual hometown residency in Boston.

  2. Dropkick Murphys Share Video For “The Big Man”

Video still courtesy of Dropkick Murphys

Providing a bit of an escape from all the chaos in the world, Dropkick Murphys have released a comical video for their song “The Big Man.”

It’s a hysterical and heartfelt ode to the band’s longtime friend Fletcher Dragge from Pennywise, one of punk rock’s biggest characters (including his proclivity to enjoy adult beverages from a Pringles can). The animated clip is mixed with performance footage from Dropkick Murphys’ shows around the world, including scenes from Dropkick Murphys’ recent tours with Pennywise.

    https://youtu.be/Yie5FluJiPc?si=qt3JFJPENjNVfHId

When discussing the song, Dropkick Murphys’ Ken Casey told Stereogum: “We go way back with him [Fletcher], from ’90s Warped Tours to spending a lot of time with Pennywise on the road in the last few years. He’s got so many stories. We’ve witnessed many of the stories. But for every crazy thing he does, he does really nice things for people, too. We just thought it would be a fun thing to do, to acknowledge him.”

“The Big Man” video features character design and storyboarding by Adam Murphy and animation by Black Balloon Media. The song and video marks the final release from Dropkick Murphys’ acclaimed 2025 For The People album.

For The People shows courage and confidence, speaking up against the injustices happening in the United States, and doing so with the strength and power that harkens back to Dropkick Murphys’ earliest punk rock roots. For The People is more than a title. It’s a heartfelt stance, a declaration of who this band is – and who they’ve always been. Dropkick Murphys continue to advocate for workers’ rights and human rights – as they have done for their entire 29+ year career.

Dropkick Murphys will return to the road February 9, 2026 to kick off their 2026 For The People…In The Pit St. Patrick’s Day Tour with The Aggrolites and Haywire supporting on most dates. The U.S. trek culminates March 13, 14, 15 and 17 in Boston with the band’s annual run of hometown dates during St. Patrick’s Day week that are attended by Dropkick Murphys fans from around the globe each year.

  3. Runrig – The Stamping Ground (2001, Scotland)

Our next spotlight is on number 6 on The List, submitted by Almandine.

Formed on the Isle of Skye in 1973, Runrig was a much-beloved Celtic rock band that, among other things, was the first to have a song sung in Scottish Gaelic make the UK Singles Charts. By the time we get to this, their 11th studio album, they had long expanded their sound beyond traditional ceilidh/pastoral folk to be more folk rock, sung more songs in English than Gaelic, and had a number of line-up changes including lead singer Donnie Monro leaving (in 1997) and being replaced by Canadian Bruce Guthro. It apparently took a bit to get fans onboard with the change in lead vocalist, but this album brought renewed interest in the band (particularly across the pond) and it was ultimately their most successful. This album has even been played in outer space, taken onboard the space shuttle Columbia by American NASA astronaut Laurel Clark on the ill-fated STS-107 mission in 2003. The shuttle disintegrated upon re-entry but Clark’s CD copy was somehow found by NASA investigators in what little wreckage survived, in a field somewhere in Texas. Clark’s family presented the CD to Runrig, and the CD would later become part of a museum exhibition on the band (I’m not crying you’re crying).[1]

  9. @ejv I’m a big fan of #CelticFolk/rock/pop crossover music, but #Enya is in a category all her own.

I do think she peaked early, as I think Watermark is by far her best album.

  10. @LotSixteen One other suggestion I would make is a #celticfolk band from #belgrade called the Orthodox Celts. They were big in the #90s playing #irishmusic, in English, to sold out crowds in #Serbia. They have a couple of great Music Videos on YT: youtube.com/watch?v=B_e7QbWc5m

  11. @LotSixteen Wow, there's a question. My collection covers everything from classic bands like the Dubliners, Clancy Brothers, and the Wolfe Tones to "big names" like Loreena McKennitt. Most of it comes from individuals and small bands playing at Celtic Festivals and Renaissance Faires that I bought CDs from directly. If I had to recommend one it would be Tullamore from Kansas City, MO. tullamore.band/ #folk #folkmusic #celtic #celticfolk
