Unpaid #carers show care and compassion for other in their lives - which makes it so wrong that so many are forced to get by on low incomes that don't meet their household needs. This #CarersWeek we want to highlight that injustice, and show our support for a society where no carer is left in poverty.

In this British Society of #Gerontology seminar, CPC-CG member Dr Fei Wang argues that it’s not just about giving more #care, it’s about giving better and more suitable care so people’s needs are fully met. The findings are important to consider as we mark #CarersWeek - if we don’t address undermet care needs, we risk:
▫️ Increasing pressure on #unpaidcarers
▫️ Worsening #health and #wellbeing outcomes
▫️ Higher long-term costs across health and #socialcare

Carers UK has found there are 5.8 million unpaid carers in the UK. More than 42% of unpaid carers are men and 56% of male carers aged 18 to 64, say the role has negatively affected their mental health.
Where is our voice, when the combined number of Britain's unpaid carers is bigger than all the main political parties combined, and our value is £184bn - a cost equivalent to that of a second NHS.

There are over 5 million unpaid carers in England and Wales, whose efforts supporting loved ones is valued at £184bn - a cost equivalent to that of a second NHS.
Yet, unpaid carers are often ignored across the UK. Unpaid carers deserve a much brighter future where they are valued and supported by the state, employers and wider community.
To kick-start #CarersWeek, check out https://www.carersuk.org. The time for change is now!

Whether you give care and support because of love, duty or lack of choice, we thank you, we see you, we value you, we know you need more care and support to sustain you and your own quality of life.

CW: Mention of epilepsy, seizures and dangers associated with epilepsy
Last day of Carers Week and I hope you'll forgive me a personal one. Our daughter's epilepsy is presently not under control, and with that comes a huge amount of fear and hypervigilance

Hi! I'm a UK artist who mostly draws about disability and being a parent carer. For example, here is today's drawing, part of my Carers Week series where I take the words of fellow parent carers and turn them into pictures
This is the drawing for day 6.#introduction

People who look down their noses and sneer at those who are disabled, on welfare or their carers or assume they are thieves are the worst kind and I am glad that not everyone is like that. #CarersWeek
