This retrospective of her early career covers her entire output at WEIRD TALES and correspondence with Lovecraft, Robert E. The girl leaned back on her metal bench and crossed one beautiful long leg over the other, stirring the sequined folds of her gown into flashing motion.
“How much longer, Paul?” she asked.
The man glanced over his shoulder and smiled.
“Five minutes. Look away now — I’m going to try it again.”

  15. This week on Deep Cuts in a Lovecraftian Vein we ask "Why aren't there more C. L. Moore comics?" and look at two of them: "Jirel of Joiry: Into the Violet World" (1987) by C. L. Bevill and "Werewoman" (1994) by Roy Thomas et al. for SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN.

  16. C. L. Moore (1911-1987)

Her first published work was the haunting Shambleau published in Weird Tales in 1933, which drew the attention of Lovecraft and future husband Henry Kuttner, neither of whom knew her gender at the time. She wasn’t trying to hide that, but her writing side gig from her employer. Her Northwest Smith character bears more than a passing resemblance to Chewbacca’s pal Han, while her Jirel of Joiry is clearly Red Sonja’s mom.

  17. Virgil Finlay illustrating “Call Him Demon” by “Keith Hammond” from the Fall, 1946 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories. Keith Hammond is one of the multitude of pseudonyms employed by the husband and wife writing team of Henry Kuttner and C.L. Moore. By the bottom signature we can assume it’s another illustration made during his time stationed in Hawaii during WWII. #FinlayFriday

  19. Virgil Finlay served in the US Army during WWII and saw combat in the South West Pacific theater, but also created posters and illustrations for the Morale Services during his three years of service. This is one of those illustrations as it is signed, "Oahu, Hawaii 1945". His editor must have liked it because he commissioned Finlay’s friend and fine writer Catherine L. Moore to create a story based on it.
