When the city came to destroy the last vestiges of Seattle's 2020 #BLMG protest garden I and another friend started a food mutual aid project to help keep protesters going.
That project grew out of my fridge, the first fridge to feed around a HUNDRED ppl a week in Capitol Hill.
Just some scrappy punks, dumpster diving and getting to know grocery story workers, combatting food waste and inflation one fridge load at a time.
I haven't had time for that org at all now.

Anti Black hate is on the rise locally and nationally.
The BLM street murual is one of the few lasting marks of the 2020 protests the city has allowed and some racist keep defacing it.
As much as I know the city probably will keep repairing the painting, I sure wish this city had the same energy for policies that materially change anything at all.

After the city razed the BLM Memorial Garden #BLMG from the park the mayor's office has seemed hell bent on keeping the park clear of any signs of community life not pre-approved by the local government.
So they put a ton of effort into erasing the rat themed graffiti.

The BLM Memorial Garden and the near daily breakfast program and weekly free grocery events were brutally crushed just like the Black Panther programs which inspired us.

It took all the cops SPD could muster to enable the right wing terrorist led event to go on uninterrupted.
Seattle cops arrested 18 to 30 people who were protesting the anti trans event.
The arrests were extremely violent and at least one person was sent to the hospital. I'm getting reports of things like a bike cop headbutting a woman then macing her after she was down and possibly already handcuffed.
Significant police use of force.

I've been heartened to see activist friends starting a similar program in my neighborhood in the past year and a half and was extremely proud to be the first fridge in the network.
Like Fred's example it's grown by leaps in this time.
But you know what? The state oppression has been REAL.
The Mayor of Seattle personally ordered over $89k in destruction to put a stop to our meal services and other community outreach programs!
