Fittingly for #DisabilityPrideMonth I got an announcement e-mail by my favourite LBS for an organized bicycle ride—without any text, neither in the text-only part 🙄 nor in the HTML part 🤬, just a picture embedded in the HTML part and of course without image description, too. 🤌

Do you think I should make them aware of this or should I ignore it 'cause "blind people don't ride bicycles"? (I know they do, at least on tandems.)

what are folks using to compile their DECTalk user dictionaries? i really don't want to have to set up the whole build environment on Windows just to compile a proonunciation dictionary for #NVDA, but I don't want to use NVDA's dictionaries for DECTalk because i don't want to have to keep toggling phonemic input in the dict entries.

Thunderbird is out because I cannot find reliable instructions on connecting it to my Outlook contacts. Discovering that the "record" function in #PowerPoint seems to break #JAWS was not at all what I needed this afternoon. Going to do some more testing and see what happens with other screen readers. In the interim, however, are there any #Blind folks out there who record slideshows regularly? If so, how do you do it? #BlindMasto #BlindFedi #ScreenReader @mastoblind

Jedenfalls versuchen wir das Jahr über auf #Menschen mit #Behinderungen aufmerksam zu machen und sie zu unterstützen.

Would love to connect with other #Blind language learners, especially those using #braille as a component of their learning. Currently learning #French. Am particularly interested in chatting with people who have taught themselves grade 2 French Braille as well as those who are either conversational or fluent and/or who have worked in or currently live in a #Francophone European country. Hi #Blind #Musicians and #Opera students. Looking into the best way to write out a text in another language, its corresponding International Phonetic Alphabet transcription, and its word-for-word English translation in inkprint via a computer and then emboss or generate BRFs of that document to review in #Braille. I would just write the BRFs on my Braille display, but I would prefer my instructors to see the IPA which I've written as sighted vocalists would. IF this is not easily accomplished, I will simply continue writing out my transcriptions via Braille display. Any help appreciated.

Question about #AltText for #BlindFedi if it's ok?

I see a lot of very creative and funny alt texts being written, but sometimes I think they are not really describing the image or letting you make your own mind up about whether you find it cute or funny or interesting.

When I write alt text I try to just describe the image. I imagine I am letting you know what the image looks like, not whether its funny or whatever because that's up to you to decide.

So my question is which is better for you? A literal description or something more elaborate?

#Accessibility hive mind, I have some questions about #ChromeVox as well as #Chromebook accessibility & #usability in general. I'm working with a #PixelBook that has never been used. ChromeVox is telling me to use commands involving the search key as a modifier, but these seem not to work as any use of the search key invokes #Google #Gemini. What's going on here? Additionally, how are #blind people using #Chromebooks? In what tasks do they excel. In what tasks do they fall short? Any input and/or information would be greatly appreciated.
