The Tech Docs are opening the clinic for a special episode dedicated entirely to Meta glasses and what this technology can mean for people who are blind or vision impaired.
We understand the concerns around privacy. Those conversations matter, and they should be taken seriously.
But there is another side to this conversation that cannot be forgotten.
For a blind person, Meta glasses can be far more than a gadget.
They can describe the world around us.
They can read information we cannot see.
They can help us identify objects, products, signs and surroundings.
They can give us access to visual information that sighted people often receive without even thinking about it.
And sometimes, that information isn’t simply convenient. It can affect our independence, our confidence and our safety.
When people debate whether technology like this should be restricted or banned, the voices of blind and vision impaired people who rely on that technology need to be part of the conversation.
Privacy matters.
But so does accessibility.
So does independence.
And so does our right to access the world around us.

Thunderbird is out because I cannot find reliable instructions on connecting it to my Outlook contacts. Sooooo... thinking about the possibility and feasibility of big life changes, namely studying opera seriously in Europe. Would love to connect with other #Blind language learners, especially those using #braille as a component of their learning. Currently learning #French. Hi #Blind #Musicians and #Opera students. Looking into the best way to write out a text in another language, its corresponding International Phonetic Alphabet transcription, and its word-for-word English translation in inkprint via a computer and then emboss or generate BRFs of that document to review in #Braille. I would just write the BRFs on my Braille display, but I would prefer my instructors to see the IPA which I've written as sighted vocalists would. IF this is not easily accomplished, I will simply continue writing out my transcriptions via Braille display. Any help appreciated.

#Accessibility hive mind, I have some questions about #ChromeVox as well as #Chromebook accessibility & #usability in general. I'm working with a #PixelBook that has never been used. ChromeVox is telling me to use commands involving the search key as a modifier, but these seem not to work as any use of the search key invokes #Google #Gemini. What's going on here? Additionally, how are #blind people using #Chromebooks? In what tasks do they excel. In what tasks do they fall short? Any input and/or information would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone else have the strange shared memory of pausing Tarzan Junior for the first time and hearing this random chill ass lounge music in what was normally a loud, fast paced, violence filled side scrolling adventure game?
