  1. The common #daisy, #Bellis #perennis (#Asteraceae), was originally native to the #Mediterranean region, Western Asia, and North Africa. It arrived in Central Europe through early human activity and is therefore named an #archaeophyte. A. Rathore et al. (2024) identified two #begomoviruses from it for the first time using PCR and full-length DNA analysis.

  2. Flower of the Month: April

    Wednesday, April 15, 2026

Hello, all.  I had over half of this post done when my computer crashed.  What I had saved of the post in WordPress… well, didn’t save.  I’m starting over, but with an abbreviated version.

Flowers of the Month: Daisies and Sweet Peas

I expect that everyone is familiar with the charming daisy (as in my image at the top of the page).  So the photo here features the delicate looking sweet pea.

    Symbolism

Daisies symbolize innocence, purity, and true love, while sweet peas represent bliss, gratitude, and good wishes.

    April’s Animals

From various sources the primary animal associated with April is the duck.  That’s my lovely Night Cafe model above.  The duck symbolizes cheer, and endurance — as in “like water off a duck’s back.”  Other April animals include the falcon and the ram.

    Oracle Card

The Magic of Flowers oracle cards by Tess Whitehurst has a card for the daisy.  I love the joy and whimsy of the artwork on this card.  In the context of the oracle cards, the daisy can remind us to be mindful of simplicity, health, purification, and wealth.

“Rather than adding or doing something in order to experience the most positive resolution or outcome in this situation, it appears that it’s time to let something go or to simply let it be.”

So, I’m going to follow that suggestion — since I lost so much work, I’m going to just let this post be, and let it be simple.  Friendly comments are appreciated.  Hugs!

The special thing was that the duck came up to me and was very talkative. In a place on this island where there are not many people who would feed animals.

  4. This is Daisy. She was built in Long Beach, Los Angles, California as a C-47 A-60-DL Skytrain, which is a military version of the DC-3, including a large cargo door, reinforced floor and high capacity fuel tanks. Originally delivered to the US Army Air Forces on October 5. 1943 as USAAF serial number 43-30723. Her first assignment later that month was a base in Oran, Algeria, transporting troops, goods and supplies. In 1944, she was re-assigned to England as part of the allied invasion on D-Day. Mutiple reports place her at the scene during the offensive on June 6. 1944.

She was sold to the Norwegian operator DNL (Det Norske Luftfartselskap) in 1946 and received the registration number LN-IAF. Two years later, the national airline carries of Norway, Sweden and Denmark joined forces and founded Scandinavian Airline Systems - SAS. This was when she got the "dragon paint" seen in this image.

She's had multiple apperances her since then, but the original SAS look was returned to her 1986.

She not only looks good; she also has a strong, distinctive and beautiful voice…

Today, her care is provided by the non-profit member organisation Flygande Veteraner in Sweden. She still flying.
