asking the hivemind for suggestions for 3d printers. Total noob with no particular application in mind other than maybe #3dprint replacement parts for stuff. I am more interested in the things I can print than the printer itself :)
It's important that no functionality is locked behind cloud services or subscriptions. So no #bambulabs I guess, especially after the OrcaSlicer debacle
Maybe a #prusa ? Or are they also enshittified? or a #creality ?

This was a fun build - but I'm hitting a block on how to use an android tablet as an external display from #macos AND FLIP IT horizontally (because it's mirrored in the telepromter glass)
I haven't quite found the right concoction of apps to achieve this yet, if anyone has had success...

Today's project - 3d printing a teleprompter jig. I plan to use this primarily for zoom/google meet/slack call windows, for better 'eye contact' during virtual meetings and presentations.

I wish #bambulabs would hurry up and drop Bambu Studio with built-in filament management in it already. It's nice, but a pita on a smartphone. I know there's the public beta, but minor updates are corrupting the cloud-saved versions and I don't wannaaaaaa

It's an interesting read, and makes me wonder whether I should migrate my own projects from GPL to #AGPL3

Me fascinan las #impresoras3d. No tengo una por tema de consumo eléctrico y por el material de impresión (plástico) y sus residuos.
Pero si uno ve videos de algunos usuarios, pronto se encuentra que unas cuantas compañias han creado este imperio apropiandosé de código y hardware abiertos y gratuitos.
Y pretenden cerrarlo a su antojo para seguir ganando dinero y ningunear a sus clientes.

I've a somewhat bad luck with picking a brand that is highly recommended, even if they cost more at times compared to the competition, and end up discovering they're shitty literally so soon after my purchase.
That happened with #Anker 's #Eufy, and it happened with #BambuLabs. For the latter, it seems that they're continuing their bullshit crusade against people freaking owning their #3Dprinters they paid for - including by hunting down #FOSS devs/projects that allow people to print stuffs on their printers without being spied on by Bambu Labs.
Seriously, fuck these brands and vote with your wallet. Also, if you've always been paranoid of American brands, don't forget to do so with Chinese brands too. You're a fool if you a think they're any better.

I just wish that the most trending one didn't have an ethical position that can be fairly summarized as "3D printers should have more bodily autonomy than women"

Whoa, I got #CircuitPython to connect to my #BambuLabs 3D Printer using Bambu Cloud (local connection not working yet, I think that's because local uses MQTT 3.1.1, not 5.0)

@derphilipp Die Geräte BambuLabs sind gut und dafür vergleichsweise günstig. Haben aber eine Art vendor lock-in der für Einsteiger kaum zu umgehen ist. Noch günstiger sind Alternativen von Creality oder AnyCubic die aber ggf. etwas mehr Einarbeitung in Dinge wie Slicing und Kalibrierung erfordern. Prusa ist natürlich auch Gold-Standard was Support, Qualität und Nachhaltigkeit angeht. Das hat leider auch seinen Preis. Ich würde (ich habe) mit einem günstigen Creality angefangen um in das Thema reinzukommen und bin immer noch sehr zufrieden damit. #creality #anycubic #prusa #bambulabs #3Dprint #3Dprinting #3Ddruck
