Eigentlich wollte ich mich heute erholen, da ich gestern solange wach war wegen Zweit-Smartphone aufsetzen.

Aber kurz vorm Laptop abdrehen einen großen Fehler gemacht: Update von #syncthing auf meinem #SynologyNAS . Die neueste Version scheint nicht mehr zu starten. ☹️

Downgrade auf die Vorgängerversion ohne Datenverlust war leider nicht möglich. Muss die Ordnerkonfiguration wieder neu machen.

Framework und Zweit-Smartphone passen wieder; Morgen muss ich die Fairphones meiner Eltern wieder ergänzen.

Den Spaß habe ich jetzt noch gebraucht, not. 😟

Aber jetzt bin ich komplett ko.

I haven't used #SynologyNAS for a long time, and today I decided to check the #SynologyPhotos release notes to see what new features were added during that period.

It's nothing. The last new feature was added in version 1.8.0-10070, when I was still using it. Almost a year ago, on April 16 2025.

It seems that #Synology is no longer suitable for personal use.

Wie kann ich als nicht-Fachmann nur herausfinden, warum jeden Tag mehrere #Docker Container crashen?
Ich weiß weder, welches Log ich mir ansehen soll, noch was das dann aussagt bzw. wonach ich suchen soll.
Den einizigen Hinweis, den ich habe ist eine I/O Warten CPU Auslastung von 97% zum Zeitpunkt des Crashes...

I have a #SynologyNAS at home. At the beginning it was ok, easy to manage. But I added more and more services via docker (pihole, vaultwarden, navidrome,..) and every Synology update breaks something.

Perhaps I should just delete it and go for some open source Linux..

On this show, I play a song from Doctor Deathray; as I was upgrading the capacity of my Synology NAS I discovered I didn't need it; don't enable the trash can on your Time Machine drives on a NAS; I am using my extra capacity to self-host Mastodon; running a one person Mastodon instance is easier than I predicted; I love NTFY for notifications; I hate Apprise for notifications; I bought a Trezor hardware wallet to hold all my weird pockets of crypto; the UX of using crypto for anything sucks; Obsidian starts slow on my Android phone; Quick Draft for Obsidian solves a big problem for me.

Da ich nachts und früh morgens scheinbar Zeit habe, läuft nun #paperlessngx auf meiner #SynologyNAS und migriere nun alles von #devonthink rüber. Das ist eine so coole Software, dass ich gleich nach dem Spenden Knopf gesucht habe.

I started building an application to schedule posts across multiple social media platforms. Details are irrelevant to this post. So my journey to de big tech my life has taken the next step, I have ordered a Fairphone 5 with Murena /e/OS. My iPhone has died after I de Appled all my services by moving to a combination of Synology NAS and Proton services.

I will keep sharing the experience, my experiment with SailfishOS on a C2 has been unworkable as a daily driver but keeping it alongside my main phone for now.

@estevez @betoniusz I'm following a similar path: jonsbo n2 with an Intel n305 motherboard from cwwk (Topton n18 would also work).

I haven't decided the OS yet. #TruenasScale or a build it myself approach with #Debian...

Stealing disks from your #synologynas sounds like music to my ears.

So both WD Red HDDs in the #SynologyNAS are healthy and I've copied all the data of them for safe keeping.

The #NAS boots okay with no disks in at all. Previously it went into the blue flashing light of doom, now it's booting up but beeping loudly, but is allowing normal logins etc.

Sadly I don't have the admin password yet, so I can't see what it's complaining about.

Hoping with admin login I can find out what silliness is going on.

DSM 4.2 is a bit old though...

Updating my very old #SynologyNAS from 2017. Didn't use it for years. Is there anything besides updating that thing that might be a security issue?

I don't wanna reach it from outside my network and just backup our work devices monthly.
