I am once again feeling pretty good about having a personal air purifier in my office. Every few months it tells me to change the filter and the old filter is gross and grey.
I got the air purifier to help me feel more confident about seeing people in my office in person, what with COVID. It's also helped with Canadian wildfire smoke and whatever that weird smell was that came in through the building's air intake (I think the rubber roof was outgassing in the heat wave, it smelled dreadful).

The only valid reason for the return to in-person work is to have a place to anonymously unload your less-than-stellar baking experiments on your co-workers.
I don't miss working in the office at all, but I do occasionally miss being able to stick my disappointing cakes and cookies in the pantry and know that someone somewhere will be hungry enough to eat them.
It's still not worth it to go back to in-person work, though, and I'd rather suffer through eating my own baking failures than catch #covid19 multiple times a year.

#backtotheoffice for my company involves going to a (private) WeWork office and sitting in complete silence and slacking each other before actually walking down the aisle to talk to each other. this is so stupid.

When the physical environment isn’t enough to compel us to buy things, the state and capital class often just order us to behave in ways that compel us to spend money.
Roads are public spaces, theoretically owned by everyone. When the state encloses them by criminalizing certain public uses—such as the American crime of “jaywalking”—the state subsidizes the car firms that sell us the cars that are legal requirements to use public spaces.
Our bosses do this too when they command us to work in offices—not because office work is efficient, but because ordering us from our homes into their built environment increases our spending on amenities that are difficult or impossible to access there.

Remote work is a state of mind.
Even if I’m in the office you hardly ever know where I am or what I’m working on, if anything. I can attend to personal business all day at work.
I can be in the cube next to you and be incredibly distant. I can sit in the conference room with ten of you and still be a million miles away. You are worried that remote work will destroy company culture and collaboration? I can do that while sitting right here.
