Is there a specific reason you do not make #fulldiskencryption the default option on your installer of the desktop 26.x version?

I could not believe it at first. Eventually had to waste some hours reinstalling. Otherwise huge #itsecurity hazard. Anyone who takes it can just read/manipulate all my files and potentially some chrome passwords etc.

  5. [Hello #Linux J0] Presque trop facile...

:blobreach:

  10. If anybody has enough reputation on askubuntu to write a reply (I have not) please consider to add the following annotation to askubuntu.com/a/1541428/220054

    The line

    > find ${DESTDIR} -name thunderbolt\* -delete

is dangerous because it will delete all files starting with thunderbold if DESTDIR is unset or empty.

It should at least be put in quotes to make find complain about a missing file:

    > find "${DESTDIR}" -name thunderbolt\* -delete

  16. Was there some TV show or comic book in the last 10 years that pimped #KaliLinux as a sexy OS to use?

I still poke my head into #AskUbuntu, and almost everyday there is some poor...user trying to install & configure it like a "normal" OS.

It breaks my brain & I feel that I am missing out on some meme.

  21. CW: Q1. Do users see Fediverse reply to questions from @AskUbuntu? Q2. Can you make "User-based answers" happen on Fediverse... Thanks!

@popey Hi popey, question please in more detail from the shorter CW title...

    1. Do users see a reply to questions on Fediverse?... I tried to answer some but no answer (yet) and think that would be great.

Also you 'should' write that which ever way it works (many accounts like this say if replies are seen or if it doesn't reach the user asking).

    2. I also wrote a longer thing for communities to actually allow a reply to help like this via Fediverse account ... but thought to check with you (now after writing so excuse me) if that is the case or can be done?
Below is copy of my writing to this effect about the usage of answers via Fediverse.... All is positive :thumbsup_hmn_h2:

    ================================
Fediverse Help System for Ubuntu etc [Social Media / Crowd-based help for users / semi-officially)... ?

@AskUbuntu = great way to hear about Ubuntu problems from users as they ask... BUT currently can't answer via Fediverse... This would be GREAT!

IMAGINE you could answer also !
I did actually but no reply yet.

For example.. Someone if asked "how to XYZ" in Ubuntu someone could answer here since we have time and already "logged in" !

Currently I must log into their "other site" to answer - At this stage it's like "Why do I have to log in?" without sounding too pretentious or expecting everything (doesn't really seem needed and is it not enough to be on Fediverse and just ban people here?).

Right now appreciate the @AskUbuntu account here is like an echo for #Ubuntu problems and you have more control on your site for logged in comments, but people could also be pointed to Fediverse a generic footer added to site or posts.

Nobody wants / is likely to get an account other than those with problems (!) and for each site even less likely... so for adding simple social media type comments, can you make it so we can answer them here, even with disclaimer it's unofficial and by other fans?

So for other people take note of the Ubuntu account @askubuntu so official things like this can be solved by "User-based answers" FOR THE WAY" - or just one-way problems for now 🙄

BUT LET ME PEOPLE KNOW and say you're on #Fediverse to also get answers here as your social help system!

  23. Recently I needed to use #passkeys. Both #chrome / #chromium and #firefox on #linux need usb security key (or a phone with google services). I checked whether #bitwarden browser extensions would do. TBH, it wasn't clear from the docs if you can create a passkey with them.

I tried it, worked. While researching, I found this #askubuntu #stackoverflow question: askubuntu.com/questions/143760. I answered, the way I'd like to find it. Moderators thought my "solution" is not good enough. What do you think?

  28. @mcc Thanks. More than 10 years ago I found that building sufficient reputation to actually discuss things is toil (unless one asks very trivial questions in a new technology, of course - the more trivial the better).

They can keep what I wrote, but that's that. I've just deleted my profiles at #stackoverflow, #ServerFault, #AskUbuntu, Electrical Engineering and Meta Stack Exchange.

  34. STACK OVER'THROW'

Similar to #youtube_dl we need a site just for mirroring #stackOverflow sites.

Now that #CloudGlare have hijacked #serverFault, unix, #stackExchange, #askUbuntu and the entire StackOverflow family of sites, CloudGlare are more able to learn the types of work people might be doing.

Just more anti-competitive #monopolisation of the dumpster fire we can #theInternet.

We can't bomb CloudGlare datacenters, so a distributed #selfHealing system is needed.

  37. Welp. After some time spent reading up on the issue, I've signed up for the moderator strike on #StackExchange #AskUbuntu

Now, to try and decide what, if anything, to do with r/xfce on #reddit as other folks use it. #xfce
    I'm open to input/feedback.

Wie macht man also mit der App einen Update?

  44. Open letter to #StackOverflow.com, #askUbuntu, #serverfault, et al,

Not everyone runs your javascript code to remove your #cookiesDialog. Please add an 'background-color' alpha value of 0.9 so people can see through it, or use a "CSS close button trick".

Having to 'Inspect Element' > 'Delete Node' to remove the #HTML element is a bother.

As an aside, non-invasive and non-predatory adverts are fine.

    Thanks

  45. There's a bit of confusion among the gurus in #AskUbuntu and #UbuntuForums about how the esm repos have changed with the replacement of Ubuntu Advantage by Ubuntu Pro.

As far as I can tell after decrypting the marketing-speak, it seems to look like this AskUbuntu answer: askubuntu.com/a/1453618/19626

However, correction or confirmation from somebody inside who actually knows the product would be welcome.

  50. A long day of help from others at #AskUbuntu and hacking at the problem.

Happy to report that dual Asus monitors with Intel graphic drivers is working on #Ubuntu.

  51. From #Windows to #Linux

Still more #Asus issues; this time with monitors. On #AskUbuntu I share that my Asus monitors are not being detected by Ubuntu (askubuntu.com/questions/144658).

It seems there aren't any drivers.
