  3. Gave a short online lecture on altmetrics today. Main point: altmetrics measure attention, not quality. Sometimes they capture real interest - sometimes just noise. Attention ≠ impact.

  5. 📣 Tomorrow plan to join us to learn how to gather citation metrics and explore altmetrics in Digital Science platforms (e.g. Dimensions, Symplectic Elements, Altmetric)

📊 We’ll cover searching for publications, people, and research organizations so that you can find key metrics (citation counts, FCR, news + policy mentions) and export data for visualization.

  26. @egonw @dingemansemark Hidden gems is another term people have used. When I was on the PLOS article-level metrics team, I proposed using the PDF downloads to HTML views ratio to find articles that weren't necessarily the most highly viewed but were more deeply engaged with - the assumption being that downloading the PDF indicated greater interest from that reader.

  33. Q: Will GSC start using microformats or RDFa?
A: No. Not even schema.org, which they say they support.

Q: What mashups can we expect between bibliographic databases?
A: Many, but not by Google.

Q: Will new entries automatically be posted to Google+?
    A: No.

Q: Will it have a button to autocreate a blog post when a paper gets cited 100, 500, or a 1000 times?
    A: No.

    Q: Will GSC support #altmetrics?
    A: No.

  34. a year after the major migration scholars from Twitter to Mastodon, major #altmetrics services are not yet tracking mentions on Mastodon. What's their plan? Will they? Support Mastodon features, like privacy? Where is the transparency?

Or is the idea of tracking the dissemination process simply not sustainable?

  37. New study: In some fields, #bots make more than 70% of the #Twitter (#X) mentions of research papers. "However, these are extreme cases, and the impact of [bot] activity on #altmetrics varies by speciality, with minimal influence in Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences. This research emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between specialties and disciplines when using Twitter as an altmetric."
