Where do bibliometricians come from? 🤔 A new international study suggests a simple answer: mostly from academic libraries. Around 60% of people doing bibliometric work at universities are based there.

The catch? Over 70% say they never had formal training in bibliometrics. People simply grow into the role while working with databases, indicators and research analytics.

I spend a lot of time thinking about #ResearchMetrics and most of the academic ones - like citation counts - really say nothing about actual impact.

Are people citing your papers because you're right? Because you're first? Or because they disagree and think it's terrible? Doesn't matter - it all adds up!

And that doesn't even begin to translate to adoption in the real world.
