  1. Open peer review is gaining traction as a way to improve the transparency and quality in the research review process. But how does it work in practice, and what are communities taking into consideration when adapting open peer review to their needs, resources and context?

💡 2026 PREreview Champion Alan Colin Arce explores this topic in an insights report for the Open Scholarship Policy Observatory, featuring a reflection from PREreview Executive Director Daniela Saderi about fostering equity and trustworthiness in preprint review. 3. 💬 Latest thought piece in @force11 blog by Daniela Saderi & @csmarcum asks how we can ensure that scientific findings remain openly available as a public good and accessible for independent evaluation amid shifting political priorities and publishing models.

Open community peer review distributes the power to participate in science, creating a more resilient scholarly communication ecosystem.

  5. New day, new hope for academia: The second review for the first submission for which I am the handling editor has just been submitted and I can honestly say that both reviewers did an excellent job. It's really nice to see people taking their jobs seriously and devoting time to reviewing other people's manuscripts with the best of intentions. Thank you!

In related news, do consider submitting to @replicationresearch, too: uni-muenster.de/Ejournals/inde! :cc_by:

  7. I am excited that my submission at JOSE (Journal of Open Science Education; jose.theoj.org/) has now been assigned an editor and a first reviewer! 🥳

🚨 We are still looking for a second reviewer: github.com/openjournals/jose-r! 🚨

Would you like to review a tutorial on #Quarto for research (with a special focus on #humanities researchers with no programming background)? If so, sign up as a reviewer here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI! This is a really different (and I personally think better!) reviewing experience than traditional academic publishing: reviews follow a checklist principle and reviewers' contributions are public.

  15. #openpeerreview cheatsheet: There are lots of ways to open up peer review (e.g.,via publish-review-curate) but since I often hear people discuss open peer review, here is a quick reminder of different dimensions of what this refer to: publication, anonymity, or inclusivity

  19. More benefits of #OpenPeerReview:
    sciencedirect.com/science/arti

When they know their reports will be made public, referees make them longer, clearer, more informative, and more constructive in suggesting improvements. And btw, reports by women are better in these respects than reports by men.

  21. Just finished my @MetaROR journey — two rounds of #OpenPeerReview, valuable feedback, a stronger paper, and finally a journal submission:

    :doi: doi.org/10.70744/MetaROR.179.2

Open review takes time, but it’s worth every week for the transparency and trust it brings. As Einstein might say: insanity is submitting to the same publishing oligopolies and expecting the system to change on its own.

  25. Are you in #EarthScience and interested in improving #AcademicPublishing options in your field? I am preparing a proposal for a PCI Eart Sciences, which would be part of peercommunityin.org/ family of journals. The digital infrastructure and brand are there, i have benefited as an author and as an editor from PCI Paleo and I can attest to the high quality and robustness of this platform and process. Being involved doesn’t actually require committing a lot of your time, as it takes years to establish a new journal. At this point it is more about launching it and making it visible, so I am primarily looking for mid-to senior-career collaborators who can help steer publications towards this venue. Especially if you’re in the field of #EnvironmentalScience, #Tectonics, #Petrology, #Mineralogy, #PhysicalGeography, #Hydrogeology, #EarthSystemScience and #Climate you are most welcome as these fields are underrepresented in my network. You can contribute by becoming an editor, pledging a submission, or helping recruit a BigName in your field (maybe that’s you?). Please have a look at peercommunityin.org/ or get in touch. #OpenAccess #OpenScience #geoscience #OpenPeerReview

  27. Just learned today that all Nature's published research papers will now have their peer-reviews accessible! #openpeerreview is becoming mainstream!

But if you want to make it for free you can still come to us instead of this big commercial publisher... 😜

  29. 💬 "Peer review improves papers. The exchanges between authors and referees should be seen as a crucial part of the scientific record, just as they are a key part of doing and disseminating research."

✅ Transparent peer review to be extended to all of Nature’s research papers
