A large part of the economy deals in knowledge – and I’m not talking about education alone. Knowledge is a major ingredient, as well as a byproduct of, any credible attempt at societal change. A host of institutions – universities, governments, parliaments, think tanks and what have you – continuously produce knowledge.

Initial questions about this #retraction risk calculator:
What about negative phrases in social media posts that are NOT actually about the linked article?
What about negative posts about a paper that don’t actually link to the paper? (Screenshots, “link in comment” posts, etc.)

"Like many awesome internet phenomena, blogging started in the late nineties. Nature authors and editors recognized the effort early. In 2006 there were already more than 45 million blogs, and at least 50 science blogs made it in the top 50,000 and 5 in the top 3,500."

The #altmetric service (Holtzbrinck corp.) supposedly tracks online attention to research, used by many journals/universities. They track X and Bsky but ignore the most impactful platform Mastodon: What isn't corporate doesn't exist. Great example of how data are never "neutral".

#Altmetric (@altmetric) has long tracked #Twitter mentions and now tracks #Bluesky mentions.
https://www.digital-science.com/news/altmetric-adds-bluesky-social-media-as-a-research-attention-source/Does anyone know whether it tracks #Mastodon mentions?

#Altmetric now includes (re-)posts on #Bluesky in their scores
This will probably mean that even more scientists will use Bsky as their main replacement of Xitter 😕

#Altmetric update: I emailed them about this and got an answer!
They say they can’t add #Mastodon tracking at the moment due mostly to “technical incompatibilities”.
They say they’re thinking about adding #Bluesky …I asked them what were the incompatibilities because we might be able to fix them from our side (right?) - I’ll let you know if they answer…

Could we get #Altmetric to incorporate #Mastodon / #Fediverse mentions? If yes, how?
It’s really annoying to still see twitter there and not even Masto. I’m sure that’s one of the reasons why some scientists are still on twitter. It seems a detail but it is really useful to check out “attention” towards a specific paper and different discussions of it.

Our new little @arxiv_cs #preprint is about how scholars, journals and publishers can make the nomenclature transition from #Twitter to X:

Maybe something else will grow out of this manuscript 🌱... or maybe not.

New research #Altmetric If you're not arguing with your co-investigators on how to answer any of the questions on the #IRB #ethics application, then your research is unnecessary.

Does anyone know whether #altmetric or similar services have already enabled #mastodon metrics?
I know it might be technically challenging, since a publication can get traction on many instances, but this feels like an excuse rather than a reason. Especially now, that X is overflowing with content aggregator bots, misinformation and similar crap, a move away from unhealthy and essentially anti-research platforms would be warranted. Easy PR win for both Mastodon and Altmetric (or similar).
