  1. 'Is the internet down?' — 'It's just you.'

The roommate asks if the internet is down; the dashboard answers in one glance. Uptime Kuma: all green, it's just you. Receipts beat vibes.

  3. How many services can one $60 box monitor?

Not 10, not 50 — a used mini-PC running Prometheus happily scrapes hundreds of targets every few seconds. Monitoring scale was never the expensive part.

“Global mountain regions have great biological, cultural, and spiritual value for people around the world, but progress in efforts to conserve montane resources has been slow. International researchers are now acting to construct a bioeconomy framework for global mountains that includes biodiversity, cultural protection, and restoration, circular economy principles, biotechnology innovation, digital integration, sustainable fair trade, and social equity and justice. Plans in five mountain regions are reviewed for initial actions to implement this framework…”

  8. 📉 Ah, yes, because the old way of measuring #homeownership was just too *accurate* for some folks. 🙄 Leave it to the Federal Reserve to invent a metric that makes #renting your parent's basement sound like the American Dream. 🏡✨

“Most of us use maps to find places. Farmers in Scotland are now using them to help restore nature. 🌿
A new tool from NatureScot powered by Ordnance Survey data, is being tested with farmers and crofters and helps them map habitats, record wildlife observations and track biodiversity improvements across their land.
By turning trusted location data into practical insights, FarmBioScot makes it easier to understand the environmental value of the land they manage, support nature recovery and meet requirements for The Scottish Government support schemes.
It's a great example of how geospatial data can help people make better decisions - benefiting both rural businesses and the natural environment…”

“NatureScot, Scotland’s nature agency, is testing a new digital tool with farmers and crofters across Scotland to help them consider nature in their business management. The new platform, powered by Ordnance Survey (OS) data, will also make it easier for them to meet requirements for government support schemes.
Farm Biodiversity Scotland (FarmBioScot) enables users to map habitats, record wildlife observations and track biodiversity improvements on their land through a simple platform, available via both app and web. The tool supports the Scottish Government’s wider ambitions to restore nature while helping farmers demonstrate the environmental value of the land they manage…”

  21. Geospatial Data As Bioethical Evidence

“Satellite imagery now documents systematic patterns of infrastructure destruction at spatial resolutions and temporal cadences that were unavailable during the atrocities of the twentieth century. Whether and how such data may enter bioethical deliberation, however, remains under-theorized. Quantitative remote sensing produces damage percentages, not normative claims, and bridging the two without committing an is-ought fallacy requires an explicit epistemological procedure. The contribution developed here is normative and epistemological rather than empirical. A six-component admissibility framework integrates, for the first time, geospatial evidence, population-level bioethical principlism, and the coherentist verification epistemology of political fact-checking into a single reproducible procedure for the bioethical use of satellite imagery. The first component specifies evidence admissibility criteria tailored to bioethical rather than strictly legal use. The second requires coherentist triangulation across methodologically independent remote sensing studies. The third operates as a bioethical relevance filter mapping infrastructure categories onto population-level social determinants of health. The fourth operationalizes principlism by translating health justice, accountability, solidarity, and sustainability into measurable geospatial observables. The fifth establishes ethical representation safeguards against voyeuristic or dehumanizing uses of destruction imagery. The sixth demands explicit epistemic humility regarding uncertainty, data missingness, and attribution limits. The Gaza conflict provides the case in point. Two independently produced geospatial studies, one based on SAR coherent change detection and one on very-high-resolution optical analysis, converge on extensive damage to civilian healthcare, water, sanitation, and educational infrastructure, and thereby satisfy the coherentist triangulation requirement of the framework. The resulting inference licenses bioethical claims of systematic survival infrastructure degradation while preserving transparent boundaries between what satellite evidence can and cannot establish about genocidal intent…”
