Canada if you want to be that middle power Carney once spoke about. Drop all talks of age restriction. Instead, go after the social media corps as Estonia says.
At the same time court software devs to build and host none age restricted software in Canada. Incubate the development of free software and the economy that grows from it.

Who's behind this? Predominantly the decision to adopt age gates has been driven and fuelled by Meta and other social media giants. Estimates are that Meta has put approx. US$ 2 billion into this in lobbying and funding of 'interest groups' that are supposedly pro-family and for child protection. Meta has the most to gain (exclusion of smaller competition that can't afford it, plus *verified* identity data of users for better targeting ads and campaigns).

Recently I was in a group with grannies (70+). One of them had brought her granddaughter (about 6) along, who got obviously bored. She kept her entertained with "funny" #TikTok videos. The girl wanted to explore our #books: 'Don't touch!'
And all these grandmothers, their eyes sparkling, could rattle off the names of the TikTok influencers who ‘keep children aged two and above entertained’. And calm. (Their parents, too!)#ageRestriction #influencers #children #socialMedia #exposure #ScreenTime
