Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup aka #dcss is pretty damn hard. Even playing the recommended "easy build" of a Gargoyle Berserker, I keep dying around character and dungeon level 5. It's like you go straight from fighting a few loose rats and snakes to getting ambushed by an entire orc army all at once. Played a bunch of Ultimate ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery): Caverns of Chaos (which is a sequel to the original ADOM) today on Steam. It has some bad reviews, but really, I think it's an improvement on the original. I find it to be a blast-- a great dungeon crawler. And a great opportunity to play as a ratling priestess. 😂

Notch (of Minecraft fame) is apparently thinking of doing a modern take of an old-school #roguelike such as #ADOM or #NetHack.

... Really? So many people seem to be so excited of modern NetHack, because they just love NetHack so so much.

13 - I don't think I've played anything 5 times! *Maybe* half-life!? Or do Roguelikes count? In which case a ton of them - Probably #ADoM the most, #SlayTheSpire too, #FTL... #Hades too!

@jq I too have also lost a not insignificant amount of time to Angband.. and #Nethack.. and #ADOM. and #TOME back when it was called "Tales of Middle-Earth". I'll definitely check that video out (:

@wraldpyk I never played the original I mainly think this was because of the ASCII style, even though I played visually similar games f.ex #adom.
I do love games like #Gnomoria and #Rimworld which are heavily inspired by #dwarffortress and I'll definitely check it out when it's releasing.

@MarcNuernberger Hm, there are many players addicted to rogue likes here at Mastodon... I know that @mdhughes is into a lot of games... I usually just play #DCSS and #Adom from time to time.
