Hades II (Switch 2): COMPLETED!
Remember that other Hades II? The one with turtles in it? That was a great game, wasn’t it? I bought that because it was so much like Hades and there wasn’t really any other Hades-likes around that had good reviews. Oh, except for actual Hades II. Which I finally got round to buying.
Set a number of years after the first game, after Hades himself stopped being a Bad Dad And Husband and Zagreus brought the family back together, Hades II stars new addition to the family – Melinoë. She’s Zagreus’ younger sister, born after the first game and squirrelled away by Hecate, a witch in Hades’ employ, for her own protection when Hades’ own dad Chronos escapes from his prison and enacts revenge on his family.
Hecate has been training Melinoë for years, and the time has come for her to journey (repeatedly) back to Tartarus, defeat Grandad, retake the House of Hades and free everyone. And it plays just like the original game, really. Each run, you might progress a bit further, unlock something new, or gain enough of certain resources to enable permanent upgrades. Or luck might not be on your side and you fail horribly.
You see, like Hades and Teenage Mutant Hades Turtles, you get frequent temporary (for the duration of the run, or for a set number of rooms) upgrades and boons, but they’re generally random. You can stack the cards in your favour a little, to make it more likely certain upgrades will come your way, but it’s very possible you’ll end up with rubbish, a wealth of coin but not power, or several boons which don’t really work well together. But that doesn’t matter! Every failed run nets you something, so there’s always a sense of improving, even when you don’t.
Different to the first Hades is a choice – a few hours in, at least – of two paths. It turns out you’re actually needed to fight the war on two fronts, both on the way to Chronos, but also Mount Olympus is in jeopardy because Chronos has unleashed Typhon on the Gods, and he’s a bit big and nasty. That means you’ve two routes, with different levels, baddies, stories and goals, but the plot of the game explains why you need to do both. And complete both. Multiple times.
Other than that, and some tweaks to how certain rooms “work”, Hades II is “just” more Hades. The slick fighting and the massively varied builds you can create are well crafted. The seemingly endless, and rarely-repeated dialogue between you, your friends, foes, Gods and even mumbling to yourself, is incredible – as it was in the original game. Every character is well fleshed out and the voice acting is fantastic.
So, don’t expect anything too radically different if you’ve played Hades, but if you enjoyed that even just a little bit, Hades II is up your street. It certainly was up mine and I loved it from start to end.

is Hades 2 worth playing if you haven't played the first game? I got it as part of the Hugo Award voter packet but not sure how much it relies on you knowing the first game's story

Very excited see how thick the Jersey accent is on my boy Polyphemus in Christopher Nolan’s new movie

The Lowest Bid
The Lowest Bid by Stewart Stafford
The sceptre is cast to the shivering sea
with divine ordinance, codes of chivalry.
A blinding vision of the fallen from on high,
New roving dregs with a scavenger’s eye.Yield up the light, coax out the dying flame,
Punishment for crimes revokes your name.
Was freedom built on ancient delusion?
It persists as the architect’s cold conclusion. The most degrading and painful descent
is the one to the lower “kingdom” crescent,
Shadow throne invoked by seditious implication.
Collusion not coercion, mummified by mediation.Trust not the expedient offer, the beatific start —
They can only embalm the chasms of the heart.© 2026 Stewart Stafford. All rights reserved.

Help. I need feedback. I am failing at finding income. I can't drive, I have a movement disorder. If I were to offer prints of the following two pieces of art, on Bristol paper, low quality prints enhanced with multimedia, including UV reactive glow in the dark paint, what would you be willing to pay? They are #Persephone and #Hades he is hung facing her.

Man, the ending of Hades is absolutely beautiful. With how much I enjoy the storytelling of Bastion, I should have expected as much. But I was still surprised to find myself crying. Supergiant Games is just the absolute best.
Yes, I know I'm six years late, but that's okay. =)

Without knowing anything about the game, wanna guess which of these two is the playable character in #Hades2 and which one is just an NPC?
Fucking sigh...
Just give me the big strong gal for once. Let me play the big bitch. Please. This one feels worse cause early dialogue has Melinoe complaining that they should have sent Nemesis instead.

Piekielnie dobra akcja, boskie moce i rodzinne dramaty w greckim panteonie! Hades potrafi przekonać do siebie nawet największych przeciwników ciągłego umierania na ekranie. Zobaczcie, jak sprawdza się potężny arsenał Zagreusa i dlaczego tak trudno oderwać się od tej produkcji.

It's kind of amazing how broken Quick Resume is on #Hades 2 in Xbox. Some prophecies (like Poseidon's), and all Achievements won't advance until you force-quit and relaunch the game! How did this get through QA?

Here is my review for #Hades, one of the most influential titles of modern years, which I finally had time to finish earlier in the month.

PyPI Packages Poisoned in Hades Supply Chain Attack
Malicious actors have launched a supply-chain attack on the Python Package Index (PyPI), infecting 19 packages with 37 tainted versions that can download and execute a hidden JavaScript payload. This sneaky Hades campaign uses poisoned Python packages to spread its reach, putting developers and users at risk.

I am happy to say! I have finally rolled credits on #Hades, a game I started in December of 2023... There is still a lot of post-game but I'm done with it for my #SummerGameChallenge :P

Obligatory timelapse. Several months long!
I deliberately decided to draw Ed without any anatomy references, but ended up subconsciously copying one of Melinöe's prayer poses anyway :D, despite consciously trying to move away from it.
The coloring got out of hand as well. None of the tasteful detail distribution and color jitters of the iconic Hades art-direction.
