  1. This is why I still use Firefox- especially for YouTube, as the YouTube app is trash. I do all my YouTube browsing in Firefox.

Firefox now the last major browser that still supports uBlock Origin pcworld.com/article/3212428/fi

I don't watch a ton on there, but I do use it for research, finding music, movie trailers - sometimes briefly daily. And if I didn't have uBlock to kill the ads on there, it's all but unusable. I can't see myself using YouTube without it.

  2. My KINGDOM for a plugin to the Apple Podcasts app that knows where the ads start and stop, and when the plugin’s activated, simply skips over them when you’re playing some episide. 😎

(Your ads are a complete joke, IHeartAdvertisements, or whatever you’re called.)

  4. Web browsing was really slow on my phone despite #BlockAds being active. I just noticed that the DNS response type was set to Custom IP. Changing it to NXDOMAIN fixed it, much faster now.

  5. #reminder article was published September 19, 2017
🗞️ Remember the time when German publisher Axel Springer and Spiegel Online tried to double down on their anti–ad-blocker fights… after years of legal battles and new site-wide blocks/tests. Springer said, “We are not going to give up.”

  6. “Firefox is one of the few web browsers remaining that isn’t based on Chromium, and it’s now the only major browser to still support uBlock Origin. Neither Safari nor DuckDuckGo—the two other major non-Chromium browsers out there—support uBlock Origin.

For die-hard uBlock Origin fans, Firefox appears to be the only browser left without compromises. With any other browser, you’ll need to settle for uBlock Origin Lite (with fewer features and less ad-blocking success) or whatever built-in ad-blocking feature comes with the browser.”

  7. 🔥 Facebook ads are so hard to block that uBlock Origin stopped filtering them

「 A user in the thread described trying to use uBlock's element picker to block the word "Sponsored" on ads, only to find Facebook splits the word into individual letters, each wrapped in its own line of code. A member of the uBO development team confirmed this isn't new, and that the technique has been in use for roughly five years 」

  8. Oh, look! The mighty uBlock Origin, once the valiant knight of the web, is now waving the white flag against the Facebook ad invasion. 🏳️💸 Apparently, the real secret to blocking ads is enabling #JavaScript and cookies—because who wouldn't trust that advice? 🙄🍪

  9. uBlock Origin is stepping back from the ongoing fight against Facebook's ad-detection tactics.

The project isn't removing its existing Facebook filters, but its small volunteer team says it will no longer keep updating them every time Facebook changes its code to bypass them.

Existing filters may continue working, but future Facebook changes could allow ads through.

  10. Android tip of the day: ADBLOCKER

If you use an Android device with Android 9.0 and up you can set a DNS to block a lot of ads from your daily use and it is very easy. Let's do it:

Go into CONNECTIONS > MORE CONNECTION SETTINGS > PRIVATE DNS
On the text field under Private DNS type a DNS address you like.
    I use, for adblocking: dns.adguard.com

I've been using this for years at this point and it is pretty effective.
It won't fully eliminate every single ad on your device, but it will make browser navigation better and games will be way less annoying.

This solution is good for those who don't want or can't root their devices to use solutions like Magisk.

    Bonus:

If you know how to use ADB, you can set a quick tile on your notifications to activate or deactivate the DNS on the fly with this small app:

    f-droid.org/packages/com.jpwol

    or

    play.google.com/store/apps/det

Im running Android 16 on a Samsung device.

  12. I'm curious what qualifies me as a bot. I'm definitely not clicking fast. Is it because I have a standard, common ad/script blocker (uBlock Origin)? Or because I use Firefox? Or because I use Linux?

It's fine, now I don't even need to contemplate subscribing. Straight to paywall bypass sites for me!

⚙️ Five AdGuard features people usually discover too late

Today is the last day of the sale (t.me/adguarden/1863). But instead of another dry reminder, here's a quick tour of the features most people find way too late, if ever.

  14. Zen v0.24.1 is out! 🚀

  15. What ever happened to YouTube's "war on ad blockers"?

    Did they just give up?

(fan theory: ad blocker users didn't switch to watching with ads, they upgraded their ad blocker and if that didn't work, changed their viewing habits. Main result for Google was more users of better adblockers that also block the search ads) #YouTube #adBlocking

  16. And my #Adguard and #Unifi environment is back to stable; backed up and ready for another foray into a solid #IPv6 setup, with my Telstra modem moving back to bridge mode.

Have just sat down and laid out all my requirements to make sure this is done right... and it's a doozy of a list.

56 items to make sure it's solid as a rock, and there's zero chance for anything to get past my Adguard DNS resolver unless I expressly permit it.
