HaGeZi is discontinuing their subdomain enumeration lists.

The subdomain enumeration lists included every known subdomain of blocked domains.
Content filters like uBlock Origin and AdGuard will automatically block all subdomains of a blocked root domain.
However, some software like AdAway and HOSTS files require every subdomain to be listed. -

Я делаю VantageDNS, recursive DNS-resolver с фильтрацией. То есть прямой конкурент всех, про кого пишу ниже. Это, мягко говоря, неудобный жанр: писать сравнение продуктов, в котором ты сам участвуешь, это как быть судьёй на матче своей же команды. Поэтому сразу два правила. Первое: свой продукт ставлю в самый конец, после всех. Второе: про себя пишу как сторонний инженер, без украшательства, и где я хуже, там пишу хуже. Если в финале вы почувствуете, что я всё-таки скатился в маркетинг, ругайте в комментариях, это будет справедливо. Мне реально интересно, как выглядит расклад в 2026 году, потому что юзеры регулярно пишут в саппорт «а почему не NextDNS» или «а что там с AdGuard». Хочу один раз ответить нормально.

When my personal Roku TV died, I just didn't replace it. If I ever do get another TV, I'll look for a dumb one (they still make them for institutional customers like hospitals etc) & connect a mini-PC that cuts out all the data surveillance / advertising shenanigans.

Due to Youtube shenanigans at the moment, things like YtDownloader & Cobalt.tools not working (they'll probably need a few days to adjust).
But downloading a YT video in Firefox with the Video Download Helper extension still works! So no worries about interruptions during the watch party :)

You can also play an Internet Archive video on your phone & cast it to your TV (e.g. play it on an iPhone, use Airplay to cast it your Roku TV & watch it there)

You viewers each get the film your own way (stream, download, physical media etc), open Mastodon to the #ReMonsterdon hashtag & press Play when the host says so at the appointed time, so that hopefully everyone is in sync.
But ads in streams can get us out of sync. You can avoid that by:
- using an ad-free stream (e.g. Archive.org, Netflix)
- downloading in advance (you can probably even put the download on a flash drive to play it on your TV, if you can't connect or cast from your computer or phone to the TV)
- using the ad-blocking/ad-avoiding tips in this thread: https://ohai.social/@klu9/115245207831850566 (for me, Firefox + uBlock Origin work for most streamers except Mercado Play & Pluto)
- using physical media
You can find links in the #ReMonsterdon collection (linked below) for various ways to watch the film
- stream: Archive (ad-free), Youtube (blockable ads, USA), Pluto (ads, USA)
- download: Archive.org, Mega.nz (will be deleted soon after #ReMonsterdon), even Youtube (USA) with a tool like YtDownloader
