  3. Google's new remote attestation scheme is every bit as terrible as its old remote attestation scheme

#Google owes its existence to the open web, but today, its technological “innovations” have much to do with locking users into a “walled garden.” The latest of these is “reCAPTCHA Mobile Verification,” an experimental initiative that will let companies block users if they are running independent, "de-googled" versions of #Android. These “indie Android” versions are favored by people who want to protect their #privacy and their attention by blocking #trackers and #ads. Worse, this is just the latest in a line of similarly user-hostile measures.

  5. @AnachronistJohn @JessTheUnstill #teams , the *only* #gafam tool that i still have to use (only through a secure web browser, a #VPN and all #trackers blocked 😂).

I could convince my school to ditch #microsoft on 150 students computers... Next step is to have it out of staff computers. Hard but feasible! 💪

  7. This is what the #WWW has become. A website with 38 #trackers (20% of its content).

I do not even understand how the #SEO people can make sense of this.

Is regular people aware of all the #surveillance and lack or #privacy that goes on while visiting websites?

  12. This Company Will Add #Phone , #AirPod , and #Smartwatch #Trackers to #LicensePlate Readers

A #surveillance company plans to add #sensors to automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) that would mean the devices, as well as capture the license plate of passing vehicles, would also sweep up unique identifiers of mobile phones, wearables, and other Bluetooth-enabled devices in those cars, potentially letting law enforcement identify specific drivers or passengers.

The technology, called #SignalTrace , would turn #ALPR #cameras from devices focused on #tracking cars to ones that can more readily track the location of particular people. ALPR cameras have become a commonly deployed technology all across the U.S.; SignalTrace would make some of those cameras capable of collecting much more data.

Does anyone have any inside info on DeleteMe buying PermissionSlipCR from Consumer Reports? I got this email from them about it.
    mailchi.mp/d3ac7cd29c53/ps-del

I cancelled my DeleteMe subscription a couple years ago when Consumer Reports started Permission Slip data deletion service. Partially because it was way cheaper ($20 vs. $100+ IIRC) but mostly because DeleteMe filled their site with trackers! FFS! I hassled them on old Twitter about it and then sent them emails asking about it. Never got a single response.

So, today I checked and according to TheMarkup.org's Blacklight tool, DeleteMe removed their trackers (except for Cloudflare's browser fingerprinting tracker). Okay, cool. But now Permission Slip has trackers.

I hate all of this so much.

  16. I am SO fed up with #youtube , their #ads, their so-called "bot protection", their #trackers , the almost obligation to create an account to slightly minimize #captcha ...

I used to download their vids with #ytdlp to watch them a bit more comfortably, but now I must play with their #cookies !

It would be OK that they safeguard THEIR content, but it is not!

  18. #Apple lies. I'm not surprised *that* this is true; I'm surprised *how* this manifests.

I was looking for a #game in the #AppStore. Not a specific game, but some kind of puzzle game that has reasonable #privacy practices.

Apple is *all* about how their #App Store has only curated #apps.

There are up to three parts to this standard disclosure. This particular set has the following:

    - #Data shared across all the apps on your device that is used to #track you

    - Data linked to your #identity that the app is not specifically sharing

    - Data that is *not* linked to you with no indication whether or how it's shared

This particular set lists #Identifiers in both the "Data Used to Track You" section and the "Data Not Linked to You" and these are mutually exclusive.

Same for #UsageData that is "Data Linked to your Identity" and "Data Not Linked to You"

    wtaf?

There's some kinda #fraud happening here, though I can't say I'm shocked. #Logic should prevent this listing from even being possible. You cannot track me with something not linked to my identity. Likewise, something cannot be both linked to my identity and *not* linked to my identity. I'm not the brightest cookie in the drawer, but this isn't rocket surgery, either.

And no, I didn't install that game.

  20. Under the Advanced #Privacy area in the #Fairphone it shows the number of #Trackers found in the installed #Apps along with the number of attempted #leaks from these trackers over 30 days. In this case 11,191 or about 370 per day! A lot are to #Google but many other #tracking companies involved - mostly US based.
If you're using a normal #Android this is the volume of data your device is leaking to US mega corporations.

  21. @BastilleBSD I also saw this on mine. Actually ~30% block rate here but it depends on how is used the Internet. I mean if you use Social Media like Facebook and Instagram, you will get a higher rate compared to Mastodon only for sure.
Using blocklists with 3M lines doesn’t mean you will be better protected. The difficulty is to use the right blocklists in AGH to get the smoothest experience: if Mrs always asks to unblock websites, you are on the wrong way 😅
There are a lot of trackers in emails and websites now: this a a mess.
