  4. Why do people care if a stranger is unpatriotic?(I don't think dissenting is...it's like tough love or an intervention, maybe) And I get why ungrateful hurts on, you know, a personal level...you looked all over for the red sweater, wrapped it in a nice box and then instead of thank you, you heard that I wanted the blue one, and that's it. But nobody wraps Medicaid money in a nice box. More like a gift bag of shame. And don't spend it all in one place.

  10. this is great 😂

as some may have read, when any stranger tries to strike up a conversation with me, i first ask, Who did you vote for?

two different times (months apart), the person answered that they didn't vote bc they were Canadian

but when talking w/ them, i realized they were crazy right wing. when i asked where they were from in Canada, both said Alberta🤣 they're probably the only Canadians still holidaying in the US 😂

  13. 2) speaker gifts are either chocolate or alcohol and I can do neither. But I manage to turn each of these gifts into speaking to random strangers and making new community friends. Having that social anxiety of needing excuses to talking to strangers can turn into a repeated win with the really cool boxes of local chocolate that would hurt me if I consumed it.

Had a box of gold and silver, and met a business and technical tester from Aarhus university. The break conversation was brilliant, and we’re now continuing the conversation over DMs.

Just like the best-ever front desk support I got after regifting chocolate over phone in full-remote times, after calling that random stranger and making a friend to regift the chocolate/alcohol to.

  14. * A heavily bundled Japanese-American man was still awake, tending to his plants. He looked up at the sound of her entrance, and his expression hardened. He had enough trouble keeping his garden alive without strangers wandering in at all hours. Remiel bowed deeply. “Please forgive me, sir. I came from another part of the camp, but as you can see, I'm not dressed for the cold. I came in here out of necessity.” His anger faded as he took a closer look at her. It dawned on him that she wasn't another Japanese-American woman from the camp, but someone thoroughly Caucasian, right down to her dark red hair. Her skin was so pale, and so thickly freckled, that he wondered if she might even get a moonburn.
