  1. @tychotithonus That, and I can’t help but draw parallels to domestic abuse:

*Charm your pants off with flattery, empty promises and humor (love-bombing)
*Lock in the relationship so you can’t escape
*Isolate you from your loved ones with mistrust and more lies
*Gaslight you by telling you not to believe what your senses tell you
*Extract your resources to keep you dependent upon them
*Appeal to your deepest beliefs to keep you feeling guilty
*Romance you just enough so you believe the relationship is salvageable
*DARVO so that you start questioning yourself when they do wrong
*Scream at and belittle you whenever you try to exercise your rights and free will
*Embarrass you in public to keep you socially in line
*Scare you into believing your real loved ones are your enemies
*Throw the occasional crumb to keep you hooked
*Drain you of every last precious drop of life
*Cheat on you and humiliate you because they can
*Threaten you with violence if you attempt to leave the relationship.

  2. Due to a confluence of events, I have a small credit in an article in the Yale Journal of Law and Technology, Symposium 28 (Spring 2026?). The article is about how claims that simple hashes "anonymize" identifiers like email addresses can be easily disproven, using traditional (but focused) password cracking techniques, with demonstrated success rates in the 97% range.

  3. It's me, I'm someone. You goobers.

  4. Also I have one unit that doesn't post (due to something extremely stupid I did, pulled a card out while it was powered up, they run silent since the power supply is external and I had replaced the HDD with flash, and I I was behind it and didn't realize it was still on!). I'm not a circuitry guy, but I'm going to do some traces to see if I can find the fault, and may tap the brain trust here

  5. Highly motivated to seek folks with Whistle InterJets -- late-90s 486 SOHO Internet appliance on FreeBSD 2.2.x, resold by ISPs in the US, Europe, and Asia (IBM bought and sunsetted it, and sold off the whistle.com domain). People with long ISP memories may remember it because it was resold by ISPs in US /Europe / Asia (especially Japan).

I'm building a comprehensive info resource (and tailoring modern NetBSD to run on it). We need to find folks with hardware, ephemera, or memories. The software (on 30yo) IDE drives is especially endangered.

Rough site, in all its 1995-grade (but secretly HTML5) "glory":

    alaska.net/~royce/interjet/

(That tilde account is also endangered -- I've also registered a domain and will be moving to it when ready)

DM me or hit the email on the page.

Please boost, especially if you have overlap in the retrocomputing or vintage ISP space!

  6. Societally, it's like a combination of boiling the frog, plus the boa-constrictor technique (where as you struggle, it finds whatever new area to tighten further).
