  1. RED – a screen editor for use with VT100’s. Considerable effort has been made to have RED operate efficiently in a heavy interactive environment. It’s syntax is similar to TECO’s. archiveapp.org/red/ #texteditor #vax #openvms

  2. Tested my new Zimi for the first time. Such a comfy mask. And after a long fit-testing session yesterday I felt very safe. #SaltingTheVibes #CovidIsNotOver

  3. Been working on a little text editor called `uwu` for the last day or so as a learning project at Recurse Center. Finally starting to take shape! There's a welcome message and cursor is movable now. :nkouwu:

    This has been so much fun. I've learned all about how terminals work and how things like screen size and key presses work. Will keep plugging away at it.

  5. Discovered a neat new tool last week: github.com/wr7/refold

    It's similar to `fmt` and `fold` except that it automatically handles prefixes. Vim/Neovim `gq` can do this out of the box but fails (for me at least) when multiple prefixes are present, such as a Markdown block-quote inside Rust comments. E.g.

    ```
    // > Some quoted text
    // > to reflow.
    ```

    `refold` handles this.

  7. Tested out Krita on my tablet!! This was an excuse for me to draw my daughter Maria, so I imagined her stretching her arms out while taking a break from building/repairing robots

  8. Tested the latest #GNOME #Snapshot on #postmarketOS on my #PINE64 #PinePhonePro! It's been a while since I revisited the PinePhonePro but with cameras and camera utilities coming a long way on newer devices I wanted to revisit #libcamera on the PinePhones. I installed @NekoCWD's cameractrl and it successfully controls focus, but the PPP camera seems to have autoexposure that reduces the utility of cameractrl's exposure slider. Anyways, here's a picture of some other postmarketOS devices.

  9. Tested out one of my presents from my good lady. Worked very well indeed. #guinnessbeer

  12. Tested the ability to record and play back Midi data from/to my Keyboard using the arecordmidi and aplaymidi commands. These work! The Keyboard is connected to the computer via a USB cable (+ 8ft USB extender cable). Next, I need to integrate Midi recording and playback into my script, along with the existing ADC/DAC and sound card LineIn/LineOut options.

  16. Tested out Travel Assist in my new #Skoda Kodiaq today. I was used to Adaptive Cruise Control, so I was interested to see the difference.

    It was quite impressive. It did take some of the corners extremely slowly which I think would have annoyed anyone who was following me. All in all it worked well

  20. Tested Snagit ($63) vs Windows Snipping Tool for a deep comparison.

    Honest take: Snipping Tool handles basic captures perfectly. But if you're writing docs or tutorials daily, the lack of scrolling capture and proper annotations really hurts.

    Snagit fills those gaps but the price stings. Wrote up everything I found:

  21. Tested Mistral Small 3.1 24B on my RTX 5060 Ti -- 14.4GB VRAM, 20 tokens/sec, and barely 1.6GB of breathing room left on the card.

    Slow? Yes. Worth it? Surprisingly, yes.

    The output quality has no business being this good on a model pressed against the VRAM ceiling. Badly wish I had a better card. This thing's good!

  22. Tested PrusaSlicer 2.7.2-alpha2 on my Prusa XL, using PETG and the 0.32mm Speed profile. Happy to report most blobs along seams vanished!

    Seems like bottom layer issues also got smoothed out, hinting at a ramping algorithm tweak rather than over extrusion.

    The OK seam is due manual placement on the inner and outer, 20mm apart. Long travel paths for the print head, still result in holes along the seams.
