  6. I got tired of dodging dog droppings on the sidewalk in my neighborhood. Solution (we shall see if it helps): signs on some street posts with integrated dog poop bag dispensers. Designed in #FreeCAD (but using someone else's artwork -- artwork link in the URL below). Printed on my #PrusaXL (although fixed a calibration issue after printing)

  12. Old and new tech complimenting each other perfectly! Using a 100 year old Singer that was bought by my great grandmother (repairing clothws, not hanggliders!), unfortunately the Bakelite pulley on the motor let go. No problem, 10 minutes designing in #freecad and 16 minutes printing a polycarbonate one on my #prusaxl and back in business! I wonder if either of these machines will still be running in another century? My money would be on the Singer, albeit with many more parts replaced.

  13. This is more of an "enclosure" than an enclosed printer.
    Tons of gaps all over the place.
    With negative pressure from the fan it should at least help with particles and the like.

  24. One of my favorite features of the PrusaXL is spool join! I can load up all my nearly empty spools, hit print, and let it do the rest. Here’s a batch of storage boxes printed with leftover PETG—Fiberlogy Vertigo, Prusament Galaxy Black, and Anthracite Grey.

    This model (LR2052-112D) was printed 18 times and is part of the free storage box set.

  25. Pfff. I have an with 2 toolheads, but the print quality wasn't top, and I don't have the time nor desire to carefully tune profiles. On the other hand, having 2 toolheads is awesome for printing e.g. PLA supports for PETG etc and works so much better than an or equivalent. And then there's the that I would want, but is just too expensive to justify. Bah

  29. Had to get creative with these hinge covers—ended up using PLA as support material for a PETG print for the first time!

    My first attempt failed when the organic supports broke, but the second try worked out well.

    I set the bed temp to 60°C and used a small brim around the PETG parts. I also set the organic supports to double walls up to the tips.

    Multiple wipe towers would be a big help for these kind of prints!

  30. Quick update on the SD card and repeating gcode issue with my Prusa XL.

    Prusa confirmed it was a hardware issue and promptly sent replacement parts. Since installing them, everything’s been running smoothly—no more problems!

  37. PrusaSlicer 2.8.0 improved the seam situation for prints. For thin walls, like those in my storage boxes, the algorithm chooses a seam location where the inner and outer seams are close.

    This significantly reduces long travel movements, which were one cause for nasty seam gaps and blobs.

    The seam looks much better now. The second issue isn’t resolved yet, as you can see in the second image, but I can live with that for functional prints.

  38. There are well-established solutions for the acrylic crack issue. The simplest (to source for a larger company) is using through-hole spacers, such as ones made of nylon.

    The soft material ensures that neither the screw threads nor the nut touch the acrylic glass. Plastic washers work too, but not for a lid that bends when force is applied to the handle.

  39. I found one design issue with the PrusaXL enclosure: how the acrylic glass is attached to the metal frame.

    At the back, Prusa uses a metal nut for the M3 screw and warns not to overtighten. I tightened these screws carefully, just enough to keep them from loosening (I have experience using acrylic glass).

    Yet cracks started as soon as I handled the lid for the first time. Most likely, the metal and glass bent, building up pressure... 💥

  40. I finally found time to install the new PrusaXL enclosure, and it’s impressively well-designed and compact. 😄

    The assembly took a bit longer since I had to replace a few parts on each printer head. But, as always, Prusa’s detailed instructions made it easy to follow along.
