So I fire up the #NaviLens app for the very first time, and sure enough it spots the symbol on the packaging and suddenly it's telling me about the product, describing the tactile symbols on the outer packaging, telling me what they mean, telling me how I can call through #BeMyEyes during certain hours to get assistance, giving me product usage instructions and telling me how I can open the package and also telling me how I can visit the website or affording me the opportunity to locate the package using sound to tell me when I was close to it. That was pretty neat. I feel a bit behind the times as I must confess sheepishly to never having interacted with #NaviLens before this very day. Option to publish individual posts to be, allowing no further edits except emphasis.Like, you can change the formatting forever onward to be:
"make this bit bold", "italicise the other thing", or "strike-through that", "underline whatever".
Maybe add a redaction feature, in case you want to keep a post up, [but remove sensitive info you left in].Or redact any hacked or bot posts, leaving that portion up as, like, "hey this is when stuff got annoying".

Roma | La Casa dei Grifi riapre al pubblico dopo il restauro: dal 3 marzo visite in “real time” sul Palatino

Il Parco archeologico del Colosseo apre al pubblico dal 3 marzo 2026 la Casa dei Grifi, uno dei complessi residenziali di età repubblicana più antichi e meglio conservati del Palatino. L’intervento rientra nel secondo dei dieci progetti finanziati dal PNRR Caput Mundi, nell’ambito della Missione 1 – Digitalizzazione, Innovazione, Competitività, Cultura e Turismo, e rappresenta un caso emblematico di integrazione tra tutela, ricerca scientifica, restauro e nuove forme di accessibilità.
Foto Simona Murrone © Ministero della CulturaIl progetto, concluso nel dicembre 2024 nel rispetto delle tempistiche previste dal Piano, ha visto come Responsabile unico del procedimento Federica Rinaldi, con Aura Picchione alla direzione dei lavori. L’intervento ha interessato sia le strutture sia le superfici decorate, affiancando alle operazioni di consolidamento e restauro un articolato sistema di valorizzazione tecnologica pensato per rendere fruibile un sito strutturalmente fragile e difficilmente accessibile.
Una domus repubblicana preservata dall’oblio
La Casa dei Grifi è convenzionalmente datata tra la fine del II secolo a.C. e la metà del I secolo a.C. e venne riportata alla luce nel 1912 durante gli scavi diretti da Giacomo Boni. La domus deve il proprio nome ai due grifi in stucco bianco raffigurati all’interno della lunetta di uno degli ambienti ipogei: animali fantastici con testa d’uccello e corpo di felino, disposti araldicamente ai lati di un rigoglioso cespo d’acanto, su fondo rosso.
La casa si articola su più livelli, adattandosi al pendio del colle, e deve il suo straordinario stato di conservazione a un processo di obliterazione precoce avvenuto già nei primi anni dell’età imperiale. La costruzione dei grandi complessi palaziali dei Flavi – la Domus Flavia e la Domus Augustana – attraversò fisicamente i livelli della domus repubblicana, compromettendone l’assetto planimetrico ma proteggendone le superfici decorate da ulteriori trasformazioni e spoliazioni.
Foto Simona Murrone © Ministero della CulturaGli ambienti conservano oggi un palinsesto stratificato di almeno tre secoli di utilizzi, rifunzionalizzazioni e abbandoni, leggibile nelle murature, nei pavimenti e nelle decorazioni parietali.
Gli ambienti ipogei e le decorazioni pittoriche
Il livello inferiore della domus, ipogeo, è quello di maggiore interesse conservativo, ma anche il più problematico dal punto di vista della fruizione. Vi si accede tramite una scala molto ripida, che rende impossibile una visita diretta generalizzata.
Si conservano otto ambienti, con pareti decorate da pitture parietali associate a stucchi e pavimenti a mosaico a tessere bianche, spesso incorniciati da fasce nere e inserti policromi. Le pitture rappresentano alcuni degli esempi meglio conservati di illusionismo architettonico di età repubblicana: colonne, lesene e podi, un tempo realizzati in stucco plastico, sono qui resi con grande perizia pittorica.
Foto Simona Murrone © Ministero della CulturaParticolarmente significativo è il grande ambiente centrale, dove le pareti simulano un colonnato su podio aggettante davanti a una sequenza di ortostati e pannelli marmorei dipinti, creando l’illusione di un ricco apparato architettonico. Il pavimento è decorato da un tessellato a bianco e nero con pseudo-emblema centrale, bordato in rosso antico e arricchito da cubi prospettici ottenuti mediante l’accostamento di materiali lapidei di diverso colore: palombino, calcare marnoso verde del nord Lazio e ardesia nera.

La complessità del contesto archeologico ha richiesto un progetto strutturale altamente calibrato, diretto da Stefano Podestà, capace di mediare tra tutela, nuove esigenze di fruizione e interventi pregressi. La sfida principale è stata quella di “consolidare il consolidato”, confrontandosi con opere realizzate nel corso del Novecento e oggi non più pienamente rispondenti ai criteri attuali di durabilità e reversibilità.
Gli interventi hanno riguardato il rinforzo della copertura in legno lamellare realizzata alla fine del XX secolo, mediante protesi in legno e acciaio alle testate degradate delle travi del terrazzamento superiore, nonché iniezioni di malte a base di calce idraulica per il ripristino della continuità muraria in stati fessurativi ormai quiescenti.
Foto Simona Murrone © Ministero della CulturaUn ulteriore intervento ha interessato la realizzazione di un nuovo spazio di accesso, caratterizzato da una struttura in acciaio che dialoga con la volta rampante dello scalone monumentale, senza interferire con le strutture archeologiche. Il doppio rivestimento in lamiera microforata, interno ed esterno, ripropone il profilo mancante del vano scala del Palazzo Flavio e garantisce totale reversibilità.
Il restauro delle superfici decorate
Il restauro delle pitture murali, coordinato da Angelica Pujia e Francesca Isabella Gherardi, ha restituito la brillantezza cromatica e la finezza compositiva delle decorazioni, a lungo occultate da depositi superficiali, incrostazioni e alterazioni dovute a precedenti interventi.
Le superfici sono state consolidate, stuccate e pulite, anche mediante strumentazione laser, consentendo di recuperare dettagli altrimenti illeggibili. Particolare attenzione è stata riservata alle figure in stucco dei grifi, riportate alla cromia originale, così come al rosso intenso degli sfondi delle lunette e alla resa minuta dei girali di acanto.
La visita in real time: un nuovo modello di accessibilità
Per preservare il microclima e l’integrità delle superfici decorate, è stata ideata una visita in modalità real time che non ha precedenti nel panorama archeologico italiano. I visitatori vengono accolti in un ambiente protetto, da cui assistono alla proiezione in diretta streaming della visita guidata, condotta da una guida munita di videocamera all’interno degli ambienti ipogei.
Foto Simona Murrone © Ministero della CulturaDurante il percorso, un sofisticato impianto illuminotecnico attiva dieci scenari luminosi progressivi, studiati per accompagnare la narrazione e valorizzare selettivamente mosaici e pitture. Il ritorno avviene con una diversa scenografia, che mette in evidenza le strutture tarde responsabili dell’abbandono della domus.
La visita è arricchita da video di ricostruzione tridimensionale, dedicati alla topografia del Palatino e alla ricostruzione integrale della casa, realizzati da Katatexilux con la supervisione scientifica di Roberta Alteri, Paola Quaranta e Federica Rinaldi.
Impianti, domotica e accessibilità aumentata
Gli interventi impiantistici, realizzati da Comoli Ferrari, hanno riguardato l’illuminazione, i sistemi domotici, la trasmissione dati e l’audio-video. L’illuminazione utilizza proiettori LED ad altissima resa cromatica (CRI 98), con ottiche differenziate per luce diffusa e per la valorizzazione puntuale dei dettagli, integrati in un sistema DALI che consente la modulazione delle scenografie luminose.
Il sistema domotico controlla anche la qualità dell’aria, monitorando temperatura e umidità a tutela della conservazione, mentre la trasmissione dati è garantita da una rete Wi-Fi potenziata, progettata per superare le criticità di ambienti con murature di oltre un metro di spessore.
L’impianto audio-video consente la proiezione verticale delle immagini in diretta e dei contenuti ricostruttivi, rafforzando il contrasto tra realtà archeologica e virtualità. Una mappa tattile con testi in italiano, inglese e braille completa il progetto di accessibilità.
Un modello per la valorizzazione futura
Le visite sono programmate ogni martedì, a partire dal 3 marzo, alle 14.00 in italiano e alle 15.00 in inglese, con accesso riservato ai possessori di Forum Pass SUPER e integrazione per la visita guidata di 8 euro.
Come sottolineato da Alfonsina Russo, il format “Casa dei Grifi in real time” ambisce a diventare un modello per future iniziative di divulgazione archeologica digitale, mentre per Simone Quilici rappresenta un esempio virtuoso di integrazione tra archeologia e tecnologia destinato a fare scuola.
