I assume that the end of this #AI stuff is just going to be the collapse of our current civilization. The number of #books we're destroying means there won't be a trusted path to re-build the store of human knowledge pre-2022, and the death and conflicts that happen in between will be #extinction level. The copies of the books that do exist, on Z-Lib and other places will be lost when the #datacenters go dark. And the few #datahoarders that be oracle's in the new world.

I accidentally picked up a couple of cheapies that are only USB 2.0 (in the year of our $deity 2026!!?!?! 🤪) and I just. cannot. with the slowwwwwwness 😩

trying to find which stores might actually have USB sticks for sale that actually meet the brief is impossible as every single item listing has contradictory info about USB class & speeds – but then again when Sandisk also has incorrect & inconsistent class & speed info on their own product pages on their website ** I guess you can’t expect such tiny mum-and-dad stores like… ⚹checks notes⚹ …OfficeWorks** or JB Hi-Fi to care about such trivial things as “getting the specs correct” 💁‍♀️ 😤

OMG Social media improvement idea!
Option to publish individual posts to be, allowing no further edits except emphasis.

Like, you can change the formatting forever onward to be:
"make this bit bold", "italicise the other thing", or "strike-through that", "underline whatever".
Maybe add a redaction feature, in case you want to keep a post up, [but remove sensitive info you left in].

Or redact any hacked or bot posts, leaving that portion up as, like, "hey this is when stuff got annoying".

A user on the DataHoarders subreddit was recently inquiring about historical AQI data from US embassies around the world.

The historical data was hosted at dosairnowdata.org which is dead.

Webarchive only has 12 CSV files archived.

Does anyone here have any direct knowledge of an archive of this website or data?

FYI, there may be a 404 on the front page of consumerfinance.gov, but the site appears to still be functional.

I would grab any reports, assessments, financial education guides, complaint data, etc. ASAP

I want to draw particular attention to special guides for people with disabilities, people experiencing re-entry from the justice system, &c. Social workers- you might be interested in getting copies for clients.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is the latest agency Musk and his goons are trying to dismantle. They are already in the systems.

CFPB has a LOT of valuable teaching materials, videos, webinars, pdfs &c. guides to help people with financial matters like buying a home as well as how to avoid scams. Many videos on YouTube.

I highly recommend saving anything there that looks useful to you or that you think others might use.

Question for the #DataHoarders or those fellow geeks with storage inclinations. What is your current backup plan? Do you follow the 3-2-1 guidelines?

I currently have a RAID 10 array for a lot of media files. RAID is NOT a backup, so I have a Backblaze B2 backup for the critical items (photos, documents, etc) that is barely 1 TB. I don't think the rest of the data is critical enough to pay to store, although at $3 per TB, it's not a bad price.
