So as is often my custom with new items I scan it with #SeeingAI and other assorted apps and it's reading me what it can find on the packaging. And I think to myself, did I just hear it say #NaviLens? No I couldn't have. But wait, yes, yes, I surely did because #VDScan just said it too. So I fire up the #NaviLens app for the very first time, and sure enough it spots the symbol on the packaging and suddenly it's telling me about the product, describing the tactile symbols on the outer packaging, telling me what they mean, telling me how I can call through #BeMyEyes during certain hours to get assistance, giving me product usage instructions and telling me how I can open the package and also telling me how I can visit the website or affording me the opportunity to locate the package using sound to tell me when I was close to it. That was pretty neat. I feel a bit behind the times as I must confess sheepishly to never having interacted with #NaviLens before this very day. I'll now have to investigate what other products bear their symbols. #Accessibility #Blind

anyone remember when #bemyeyes used the fact someone used a volunteer to walk to their mailbox without a Cain or something like that? hilarious stuff. I think about it today and laugh my ass off because of how funny the concept is. o, and then some people were sooooooooo butthurt about it. personally: if it works for you, great, it works. if you can somehow get a volunteer to help you walk to your mailbox without a Cain and it works, great. it works. I don't really fucking care. I don't know why you'd want to, but it still works. #blind

Just got disconnected from a Be My Eyes call with Jack, and it reminded me how special those moments are.
You don’t get calls very often as there are a lot of volunteers, so when your phone actually rings it’s always a small surprise. (I still get that good kind of nervous every time.) I was the second person helping Jack fill out a form today, and now he probably needs a third. I really hope he managed to finish it.
That’s kind of the beauty of it though: more volunteers means nobody has to feel like a burden for asking for help. Someone new can just pick up where you left off.
I signed up thinking I’d be helping others, but honestly I always walk away feeling like I got more out of it. A few minutes of real human teamwork in the middle of a normal day.
Please don’t be discouraged by “there are already lots of volunteers.” Join the cause. Join the pool of goodwill. And honestly — if you could use the service yourself, sign up for that too. We’re here for you!
