@hrefna @cwebber @smallcircles I take it Mandy is a data storage layer?
Well, colour me very interested; as somebody who built graph abstractions on top of Holochain's DHT (which is a combo CAS + EAV) but can no longer ethically use them with #HolochainEmbracingFascism.
Am also low-key hopeful that there will be a Rust framework for Goblins someday 'cos that is as close as this classically trained software engineer has gotten to being comfortable with the lambda calculus 😂

CW: live tooting debugging: IPFS edition
Digging around some more I think it might be the #IPNS key resolution that's a bottleneck.
Right now most implementations rely on asking a bunch of DHT nodes for the "latest" record and checking them before letting the client know what CID to use. This can be super slow especially if results aren't getting cached agressively. The DHT is also generally slow with TCP connections for each request.

@Moon @cuaxolotl You might enjoy this comparison article I wrote about #IPFS, #Hypercore #BitTorrent and #SSB.

It doesn't get super into the weeds on the DHT tho

📊 Score: 7.5/10 (CVSS v3.1)
📦 Product: core-rs-albatross
🏢 Vendor: nimiq
📅 Updated: 2026-05-20📝 nimiq-blockchain provides persistent block storage for Nimiq's Rust implementation. In versions 1.3.0 and below, a malicious network peer can crash any Nimiq full node by publishing a crafted Kademlia DHT record. The maliciously crafted record would ...

@serapath @strypey well #Holochain has had far-right personalities leading its communities, and #Keet actively includes them, so there's that. Holochain has repeatedly championed White Nationalist hate actors and marketed itself to the far-right through its founding members and ecosystem growth manager.
IMO (as someone who collaborated with them for a long time and knows the architecture deeply) the DHT scenario and Holochain's forkable network architecture makes this a much more dangerous combination. No trust or consent is needed to replicate peer data to new group members, and data and code can be forked off to new groups any time. At least in Keet replication is up to the individual and not the volk.

# Abstract:
Any physicists out there married to a platform engineer, ask them to explain why you can't use an AVG() function on a counter metric and then quit with all that quantum gravity malarky.
You can't unify a category error.
QM is a counter
GR is a gaugeAt best you need a projection
At betterest you need a queue and her best friend the event log.Like Stinky and Dirty, just solving the problems of the universe one "What if" at a time
Elmo would be proud

Elmo loves Shor, Benninger, and Khrennikov and Elmo loves Dendrographic Hologram Theory and Elmo love You!

after suffering the hell of #homelab email, why don't we fix it? Keep the addressing system, but use TOR as the transport.
The Concept: Stop routing email via legacy IP addresses. Use DNS to prove who you are and a DHT to find where you're hiding.
The Identity: Publish your Ed25519 Public Key in a DNS TXT record.
The Discovery: MTAs query a DHT (Kademlia) using a hash of that key to find your current location.
The Pipe: Connect via Tor (.onion) or I2P to bypass ISP blocks and Port 25.
The Payload: Standard SMTP over the dark tunnel.
The Win: It’s just Postfix with a custom "switchboard" script. No new protocols, no "Cloud" gatekeepers, and zero metadata for ISPs to sniff. Easy peasy.

@powersource yeah, I'm not talking about switching 🙂 I'm talking about backup resilient comms infrastructure. (And knowing you, maybe you're talking about #Scuttlebutt when you're talking about "switching", so 100% good point there with equivalence to #Keet- both are DHT-based handshake protocols that end in gossip peering; and one is OSS but the other is not.)
