Ficus macrophylla, commonly known as the Moreton Bay fig or Australian banyan, is a large evergreen banyan tree of the mulberry and fig family Moraceae. It is native to eastern Australia, from the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland in the north to the Illawarra region of New South Wales. The infraspecies Ficus macrophylla f. columnaris is endemic to Lord Howe Island. Its common name refers to Moreton Bay in Queensland. It is best known for its imposing buttress roots. - Wikipedia

Restricted to Lord Howe Island. The most remarkable characteristic of this plant (as compared to F. macrophylla subsp. macrophylla in mainland Australia) is its lack of a single main trunk. Instead, it has 10 or more trunks each having arisen from an aerial root. In 1882 it was recorded that the largest of the old trees on Lord Howe Island covered an area of about 1 hectare.

THE SOUVENIR SHOP IS CLOSED! 🔔
I spent a large part of my life looking for special spiritual people.
Teachers.
Masters.
People with excellent lighting and suspiciously calm voices.
I truly believed they knew something I did not.
Usually, they did.
They knew how to become the most important person in the room without appearing to try.
Embarrassingly, I worshipped most of them.
Some discouraged it.
Some accepted it with remarkable inner peace.
That should probably have told me something.
The arrangement was simple.
They were special.
And I became special by recognising how special they were.
Everybody won.
Except sanity.
A Course in Miracles does not do that.
Jesus does not need a fan club.
Truth does not need robes, incense, a stage, a mailing list, or a photograph taken from slightly below chin level and placed on a special altar.
Truth does not make me special.
It does not ask me to become impressive.
It does not whisper that I am more awake than the people next door.
It simply removes the need for the whole performance.
Everyone leaves this world.
Some leave quickly.
Some take eighty years and several streaming subscriptions.
But everyone leaves.
So I no longer want relationships built on worship, rescue, dependency, possession, or spiritual celebrity.
I do not want to be anyone’s chosen one.
I do not want anyone to be mine.
That sounds exhausting now anyway.
I want the ordinary love of Atonement.
No pedestal.
No inner circle.
No one pretending to be the answer.
Just people meeting honestly, enjoying one another, and remembering not to start another f**king religion.
Sometimes I think I should have stayed with the Course all my life.
Instead, I travelled the world collecting spiritual detours like fridge magnets.
Still, I am here now.
And the souvenir shop is closed.
