The surprise shutdown of torrent site RARBG and its tracker came as a shock to millions of users and the knock-on effects are already being felt elsewhere in the piracy ecosystem. Other torrent sites are seeing a slowdown in fresh content, automated download apps are starting to throw up errors, and many of the largest streaming sites are missing a key source of content.

I think this sort of captures the seemingly contradictory culture of piracy w.r.t. credit and prestige and protectiveness over releases.
the crime here isn't the fork per se, but that it doesn't give attribution, and it commercializes it which is hugely disrespectful. like removing greetz and repacking, rude. retaliating is norming, keeping the scene clean, not enforcing an exclusive right to the copy.
@mpe is the only person I've seen write about this well in Warez

Genuinely might cry over losing rarbg. It has been the most stable and reliable torrent site for so long, and one of the best for obscure programming I can't get here in Norway.
We are still ip locked out of so much content, and stuff that just doesn't release on our streaming platforms.
Torrents have been a way for me to experience more of the diversity of TV and movie history for so long.Even Taskmaster is going to be really hard to watch now, with how strict the British streaming platforms are on vpns
