> I’m not claiming data centers should be built anywhere and everywhere. There are lots of places where they’ve been built too close to people’s homes. This post is about whether data centers waste the land they’re on relative to what they compete with, and my claim is that they mostly don’t compete with things we need more of (housing) and mostly compete with things we need less of (farmland).

So let me get this right - as part of its own user approved installation, Chrome installs an AI component that it uses for its own internal purposes.
So the same as video decoders, or pdf renderer, or anything else.
Seems anti-AI hysteria to me
EDIT: why do do-not-reply guys like @[email protected] bother to write comments and then block you immediately, what's the bloody point

I couldn't find a suitable replacement for #iTunes, and somehow I settled for a player called #doppler which pairs with a tagger called #yate. I don't know why, it was at the peak of Covid. I was probably going insane.
Doppler is so barebone you may as just listen to the preview in Finder. Doesn't support Genres, it's just title and track name and that's it. And Yate is so insanely complicated it's lke learning Rust from a textbook written in Ethiopian.
I finally ditched the two of them and replaced the player witn #Swinsian - it's like the original iTunes but without Apple's bullshit.
As for tag editing, asking an #LLM to write a quick golang script to achieve whatever I want to achieve is WAY easier then trying to get my head around the insanity that is Yate.
I think there'll be more and more cases like that, where people used some weird niche packages just because they were the only game in town, but now thanks to LLMs they can finally ditch them and roll their own

Tame Impala at the #UberArena, #Berlin. Excellent light show. The crowd went absolutely ballistic at some stage. But I remain convinced people, even fans, don't really know his music besides a couple of well known hits

I am baffled as to why so many people are into #obsidian, which is closed source and hard to learn, wherease #joplin is right there - free, easy, encrypted, #openSource. And as an extra bonus, it's also #european

This relies on your #codingAgent being well behaved and piping their commands through safer. I am dubious we can trust that

A thoroughly researched account of how #Germany, often on the wrong side of history, led a scared #Europe to reject #Ukraine entry into #NATO
> When it came to assigning responsibility, Zelenskyy didn't just single out the Russians – the murderers who hunted down pedestrians and cyclists. He also mentioned former German Chancellor Angela #Merkel and ex-French President Nicolas Sarkozy. "I invite Ms. Merkel and Mr. Sarkozy to visit Bucha to see what the policy of 14 years of concessions to Russia has led to."

Article goes quite in depth into how #Iran managed to jam Starlink. I don't know enough about the topic to determine whether it makes sense or not, but an interesting read nevertheless
> Jamming #Starlink proves that no technology is magic. The laws of #physics — specifically the inverse square law and the principles of interference — apply to everyone, even the world’s most advanced #satellite network. A committed adversary with #militarygrade EW equipment can degrade, if not destroy, satellite connectivity in a local area.

Sad how Linda Lyndell, after recording this absolute #banger of a tune for #StaxRecords, was targed by the KKK for "crossing the race line" and ended up giving up her career

I know we are all worried about losing our jobs and the slightly hysterical reaction to AI is understandable.
But I wish people would stop conflating "AI" and OpenAI. They are just the pets.com of their time. "AI" is much broader than that, and even within the LLM space there are other players

> So, if I wanted to analogize the energy usage of my use of coding agents, it’s something like running the dishwasher an extra time each day, keeping an extra refrigerator, or skipping one drive to the grocery store in favor of biking there. To me, this is very different than, in Benjamin Todd’s words, “a terrible reason to avoid” this level of AI use. These are the sorts of things that would make me think twice.
