You have that gnarly application that only comes in rpm, deb and AppImage. Then you suddenly remember Distrobox. And AlpineLinux is made for these setups. Tests finished, I'll finally be able to run KDE with all my required apps on Alpine! #alpinelinux #archlabs

OK, using console=serial0,115200 seems to have done the trick? Testing further...

Dear AlpineLinux-on-Raspi users,
did something change in regards to UART and the serial console in the latest Alpine releases?
I set up two Raspi 1Bs with 3.22 end of last year. One of them died and damaged the sd card. I tried setting up a new 1B using a new card, but cannot get the serial console working. I think I used the same steps as before:
"enable_uart=1" in the config.txt
"console=/dev/ttAMA0,115200" added to the cmdline.txtBut I cannot get the serial console working. I also tried a Raspi2 with the armv7l image. Same issue.
Any ideas?

So after a week with #zfs and #zfsbootmenu on my #alpinelinux install I must say both are real gems.
Example: I made a backup of my datasets on USB SSD. You just change few zfs properties and you have not only a backup but also full, working copy of your entire system in the drawer. In case something goes wrong you can boot from it and have a great rescue system with all tools you can imagine. If a tool you need is not there you just do "apk add ...".

My Alpine install is complete.
Surprising absolutely no one that has known me for a while, I am running dwm.
What an amazing distro. I think I am probably going to move to Alpine full-time.

interesting: #qnx have adopted apk as their system package manager: https://www.qnx.com/developers/docs/qnxeverywhere/com.qnx.doc.qdd/topic/using_apk.html
and they use #abuild now too: https://github.com/qnx-ports/qsc-apk/tree/main
and they even comply with the GPL license, but their patch is not mergable in the current state: https://github.com/qnx-ports/aports/blob/803/core/apk-tools/0001-qnx-compat.patch

Also currently in process of bulding and packaging guitarix to later add it to the aports testing (alpine) but the thing is that even though my APKBUILD is fine the guitarix latest github release is somewhat broken - it throws g++ error and quits, while git branch of it works just fine...

Captured some detailed notes on my latest hardware creation for remote server access. I mean, who doesn't need to cold boot their home servers from the other side of the planet?

When I forked @[email protected] `snap-pac` into `apk-snap` I just kept going with `snap-pac`'s release numbers. i.e. I started from v3.0.2. The fork is now at 3.1.0. After thinking about it, maybe I should've started at 0.0.1🤔
What do you think?

Looks like #alpinelinux is desperately in need for migrating their servers to some other hoster. They are looking for sponsors, who are willing to support this project. Please share, such that they will find a new digital home. Requirements are transparently listed in the blog post.

The ifstate 2.2 release - a tool for declarative network configuration for Linux - is available in the most recent stable releases of Alpine Linux 3.23 and NixOS 25.11. 🥳
Fun fact: this is the first NixOS release where you can use a declarative network configuration out of the box 😉

I was able to boot Alpine on hifive permier p550
alpine:~# uname -a
Linux alpine 6.6.67-0-eswin #1-Alpine SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu, 26 Dec 2024 14:02:15 +0000 riscv64 LinuxBut I'm not sure if linux-eswin is a good name for the kernel package.

The route servers at @dd_ix are using the BIRD routing daemon on @alpinelinux.
Therefore I've packaged birdwatcher (a JSON API for BIRD) and it is now available in the community repository of Alpine Linux Edge.
This allows you to easily add your BIRD instances to your friendly looking glass Alice-LG. It is shipped with two initd scripts for ipv4 and ipv6 and the default config is already tuned for bird2.

@bagder looks like the CFP is not open yet.
I wonder if something #AlpineLinux or #k0s/#kubernetes would be of interest for this event

Is there any great book on #AlpineLinux ? I love the concept, and love the considerations of the operating system. Yet, I usually opt for #Debian since I am much more familiar with it. It would be great to change that in the mid-term.

@timlegge @leonerd @Mina That’s fantastic news, although since one of #AlpineLinux’s main use cases is a small container (e.g., #Docker ) #Linux distro, there’s not much advantage to using their #Perl package or module packages vs. adding your required #perlbrew-managed perl version and pinned #CPAN modules to your image.

Possibly niche complaint: I keep trying #alpinelinux and mostly like it, but I don't seem to be able to get locales working properly. In particular nothing I do seems to make the #waybar calendar display weeks as starting on Monday. (Or any other non-`en-US` format.)
