The lower age limit for bowel cancer screening is being lowered.
If this is because of robust evidence from randomised controlled trials that screening people in the 50-59 age range does more good than harm, then this is a good thing.
If it's just because people have been campaigning for it, then maybe it's not.
Anyone know what the evidence base for extending the age range is?

OK, I am aware that creating hashes with MD5 is not considered secure in the presence of Bad Guys, but if you're using it in a safe environment just to see if files have changed since you last looked, is it perfectly good enough? Or should I still be using SHA2?

It's wild how corrupt the US justice system is. It seems that Trump got off with no punishment, despite being convicted of a felony, simply because the judge thought he couldn't punish a senior politician.
And yes, I know I write this from the UK, and we're not much better here. But it just seems so much more explicit and codified in the US that politicians are above the law.

Unpopular opinion: I think the government are right not to pay compensation to WASPI women. It would indeed not be a good use of taxpayer cash. Most of them had oodles of notice that the system was changing.
Maybe those born 1953-1955 who were caught out by the 2011 changes have a better case: I wonder if there will be a compensation scheme just for them?
Though of course you are all right to criticise the government for breaking their pre-election promises.

I express no opinion on the probability of Letby being able to successfully appeal against her conviction, but I will observe that if she does, then a lot of people who have given evidence to the public inquiry about how she was able to get away with it and why nobody stopped her are going to feel pretty silly.

So Timpson finally turned up on Sky News yesterday evening.
And sad to say, after 6 months in government, he's totally gone native.
Gone are the days when he talked about many people in prison not needing to be there in the first place. I literally lost count of the number of times he said "we need to build more prisons".
Such a disappointment.

Oh, and while I completely support the wealthy landowners' right to protest peacefully, you just know that if anyone took that many tractors to Westminster to hold up the traffic because they were protesting against climate change, they'd be locked up by now.
Why is it one rule for the wealthy and one rule for the rest of us?
