Don't worry if you're struggling with the cost of living crisis, folks. The government has given the old Magic Money Tree another shake and has found some spare cash.
So of course they're going to spend it on...
... tax breaks for millionnaires.

Since tractors are banned in Westminster, and since the #MetPolice have been so diligent about arresting anyone holding placards saying "I oppose genocide. I support PalestineAction", which are also banned, I assume that the police will be arresting all the tractor drivers today, right?
Right?

Watching the news about the Wealthy Landowners' protests on Sky News this evening, and they interviewed someone who said "we don't want to be millionaires".
Idiot. They already are literally millionaires. Or if they're not, then I don't know what they're doing at a protest against taxes that by definition apply only to millionaires.

Oh, and while I completely support the wealthy landowners' right to protest peacefully, you just know that if anyone took that many tractors to Westminster to hold up the traffic because they were protesting against climate change, they'd be locked up by now.
Why is it one rule for the wealthy and one rule for the rest of us?

After listening to the farmers' arguments about inheritance tax, I have changed my mind.
When I first heard about the inheritance tax changes, I thought they were fair.
Now I am convinced they haven't changed enough. Make the wealthy landowners pay 40% IHT like the rest of us and scrap the £1 million exemption.
As far as I've heard they have no good arguments that don't come from a massive sense of entitlement.

I saw Jeremy Clarkson being interviewed on the telly at the wealthy landowners' protest.
My god, I'd forgotten what an absolute weapons-grade arse that man is. Could not have been more obnoxious if he'd tried.
-
I fully support the right of wealthy landowners to protest peacefully about having to pay their taxes, but it doesn't seem right that if people try to protest peacefully against the government's inaction on climate change, they end up in jail.
We truly have one law for the rich and one law for everyone else.

This is very well argued by @RichardJMurphy: farmers are right to protest about the economics of farming, but to protest about the IHT changes spectacularly misses the point.
The economic problems with farming lie elsewhere, and that's where farmers should focus their protests.

Dear media, can you please stop referring to the people protesting today as "farmers"?
Most farmers won't be affected by the IHT changes.
The word you're looking for is "wealthy landowners".
Yet another example of the subtle way in which the media work to protect the interests of the wealthy and privileged.
