Well this is quite the headline:
"Doctors lose new jobs package as strike to go ahead"
No, they didn't "lose" it. Looking down the back of the sofa will not help.
The government made an active decision to take new jobs away from junior doctors.
This surely puts an end to any possibility of believing that Starmer's government wants to fix the NHS.

Perhaps Starmer would like to explain to someone who's been waiting for over a year for a hip operation, in pain, how cancelling a thousand training places for junior doctors is going to make their life better.
Positively Trumpian.

🚨It’s outrageous. Our rivers, lakes and seas are getting more and more polluted, yet failing water companies are still finding ways to reward their bosses with big bonuses!🤬 This needs to stop! 😤 @Keir_Starmer should take action to stop sewage pollution!👇

This is a huge mark of shame for the UK.
There is absolutely no reason why one of the world's richest countries shouldn't be able to keep measles at bay.
The causes are no doubt complex, but this really should be a solvable problem for a rich country with the political will to solve it.

"“I think the public will be frustrated, bordering on angry, now with the prime minister for letting this drag on for so long,” the Labour leader, Sir Keir Starmer, said on Friday after talks between the junior doctors’ union and the government broke down again."
Starmer is going to be so mad when he finds out who the prime minister is now.

"The NHS is struggling and in crisis, but not because of a “super flu”. It is struggling because flu season has come early, vaccines are offering partial protection from a mutated circulating strain, there has been poor take-up and inaccessibility of the seasonal flu vaccine, and it is a health service that hits a critical state every single winter."

According to this article, over 98% of GP surgeries in England now offer online booking for GP appointments.
Mine doesn't. I'm curious to know if I'm just in the unlucky 2%, or if that 98% figure is bogus.
So, question for people in England only, does your GP practice offer online appointment booking?
-
"There were more than 200,000 A&E attendances in England from November to February for conditions that could have been dealt with elsewhere, according to NHS England.
This represents more than 2% of all attendances during that four-month period, taking up vital resources at under-pressure A&Es, health bosses said."
Gosh, framing is everything isn't it?
Funny they didn't write "Almost 98% of patients attending A&E genuinely needed to be there."
-
"Hospitals facing unprecedented flu season, say NHS bosses"
But tell me again how the NHS can't afford to give flu vaccines to people under 65?
-
"Patients clogging A&E with hiccups, sore throats and other niggles"
Yes, that's what will happen if it's impossible to get a GP appointment.
Maybe the government should fund general practice properly rather than blaming patients?
-
I see the NHS are making 18,000 staff redundant.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't think that the main problem with the NHS was that it was over--resourced.
The idea that "it's fine, they're not front-line staff" is obvious nonsense. What if the stuff they were doing now has to be done by front-line staff?

"Starmer says that Britain has shied away from the topic of illegal immigration."
WTAF, Starmer? You've talked of very little else other than illegal immigration ever since you became PM.
Just imagine what you could have achieved if you'd put all that energy into fixing the NHS instead.

I know I've said it before, but I think it bears repeating: we could all reliably get same day GP appointments and see hospital consultants within a week by now if the government had put half as much energy into fixing the NHS as they spend being mean to foreigners

Just imagine how awesome the NHS would be by now if the Labour government put about half as much energy into fixing it as they're putting into appeasing the far right with their immigration policies

Just in case you didn't watch the lunchtime news on the BBC today, and were wondering what their take on the doctors' strike is, I can tell you it is that the government are doing their best and being very reasonable but the evil doctors are being horribly irresponsible and putting patients in harm's way.

Logging onto the Patient Access website this morning (which I use to interact with my GP surgery), and what fresh hell is this?
Is it "trusted healthcare information", or is it an ad? Because I really struggle to believe it could be both of those at the same time.

A new 460-page report from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is based on “harrowing” descriptions given by 5,400 UK nurses of their experience of working in hospitals.
It describes how patients have died on trolleys and chairs in corridors and waiting rooms in settings where “all the fundamentals of care have broken down”.
But of course, Reeves has to balance her budget, so that's OK...
-
So the government decided to restrict who can get free flu vaccines on the NHS, and now we have a monster flu season overwhelming the NHS and hospitals declaring critical incidents all over the place.
I believe that's what's known as #FAFO

Just reading about the NHS crisis from a nurses perspective on the BBC News website. The NHS is on the receiving end of 5000 new flu cases per day, and people are suffering in hospital leading to bed shortages. Patients are queuing in corridors, having cardiacs in the waiting room, and many are collapsing.
Would it be a stupid to suggest adopting milder Covid style measures in winter to avoid the high transmission of flu cases? Masks, hand sanitiser and warning people! -
And I find this bit troubling.
You know who's going to request them? The healthy middle classes, that's who.

Nice idea.
I just hope they have a plan for where they are going to find all the extra clinicians they're going to need for all those extra appointments.

The NHS is warning of a 'Quad-demic' of:
Flu;
Covid;
Norovirus; &
RSV.Yup, looks like the annual winter crisis in health care could look pretty grim... although vaccinations would help....

OK, so I've not been shy of criticising our new Red Tory government when they do bad things, but credit where it's due, it is a good thing that they've ended the junior doctor's strike.
So this is your periodic reminder that even though our government is crap, at least they're still better than Sunak's Blue Tories.

I am not opposed to NHS reform in principle, but I would like to see any reforms meet 2 criteria:
1. Done for the benefit of patients, not for profit-making opportunities for Labour Party sponsors
2. Properly thought through, not just more upheaval for the sake of it. God knows the NHS has seen enough of that over the years.
Given this all seems to be based on a report put together in 8 weeks, I am not optimistic
