... been seeing suggestions that English water co's might be allowed to charge 'surge pricing'. Outrageous until they fix that 30% loss because they don't fix pipes etc and surcharge water guzzling data centres. Oh and stop paying execs for failure!
Do those things and then it could be reasable to think about and have a conversation about surge charging for water in droughts.
But we also need proper democratic means to have those conversations. -

Since 1989 the privatised water companies have extracted over Β£85 billion -... despite the promises about investment ...what little investment there has been, is funded ultimately by customers' bills -and then some because the profits (based on monopoly, remember) shareholder dividends and executive bonuses have ultimately come from bills which are higher because of those ... in effect.
Rebuttal or challenge: under public ownership, water investment would continue to be funded by our bills, not by taxation. Our bills are increasing by 36% to cover the βmassive infrastructure investment programmeβ that is needed [2]. .... -

This is basically like an out-of-court settlement that victims can't avoid or negotiate, & in criminal matters, which is unheard of in UK/International #Law.
