  1. Excellent #investigativejournalism from #C4news on #watercompanies in the UK getting a "free out of jail card" for serious #environmental #crimes, by making a #charity payment called "enforcement undertaking (EU)". This is basically like an out-of-court settlement that victims can't avoid or negotiate, & in criminal matters, which is unheard of in UK/International #Law. A red flag for the #RiversTrust, who systematically ACCEPT this blood money & support the statusquo.

  6. Horrifyingly, the board of OfWat is divided over whether to accept the Thames Water offer to be let off regulation for over a decade and to avoid penalties for the pollution and mismanagement already carried out. How it could be anything but a unanimous rejection I don't know. I guess money talks. So we need to encourage them to make the right decision. Join me in writing to them:

  8. Petition to Uk parliament:
To make water a non profit making national asset that ensures we have a secure water infrastructure that ensures our water security for future generations.
We believe it has become very clear that funding capital infrastructure improvements has been a lower priority than shareholder profit and CEO salaries and bonuses by all the privatised water companies. Therefore, to ensure that our citizens water needs are met, now and in the future, water companies should be re-nationalised to ensure our country's water security in the future.

  9. The Gov't is planning legislation that could lock us into decades more of failed, privatised water: Its new plan to ‘fix’ water confines itself to regulatory tweaks, leaving in place a privatised system that has ripped us off for decades. And they're preparing to push these plans into law without any public consultation. More than 8 in 10 Brits support public ownership of water. No consultation means we don’t get a say on the future of our most basic and precious resource. Meanwhile, regulators, investors and water execs who have every interest in keeping their cash cow have the Government’s ear. A real public consultation is needed to stop this stitch-up, but we’ve not got much time. Before any new laws are passed, the public must be heard regarding the future of our water system, including the option of public ownership. Add your name to demand a full public consultation on the Government’s new plans.

  10. "Water companies to face regular MOT-style checks in industry shake-up"

No doubt these reforms are well meaning, but they're not going to make a real difference until there are meaningful penalties for water companies breaking the law.

Something that's punishable only by a fine on the company is not meaningfully illegal, it's just a cost of doing business.

Jail time for directors of water companies that break the law would focus minds.

  13. 🚨Urgent: Thames Water want permission from Ofwat to ILLEGALLY pollute rivers and seas until 2040. They want your bills to fill their pockets with gold, while they fill your rivers with sewage. Sign now. Tell Ofwat to say NO to Thames Water before Tuesday 21st October. weownit.org.uk/act-now/petitio 📝 #Petition #Ofwat #WaterCompanies #WaterBills #ThamesWater #OceanPollution

  14. 'Thames Water’s creditors are desperately scrabbling to keep hold of the company. They’ve put forward a deal asking to set their own rules for pollution.
Ofwat can choose to protect billpayers and the environment by taking Thames Water into special administration. That way, around half of its debt could be wiped out.
In public ownership, households and anti sewage groups could have a say on the board of Thames Water and every penny of bills could be reinvested to stop sewage and tackle leaks.
Ofwat must not set a dangerous precedent for all privatised English water companies by signing off on 15 more years of pollution.
Ofwat is making its decision on the 22nd October, when we’ll be handing this petition in at their headquarters. Make sure your name is on it by the Tuesday 21st October.'

Maybe look at their bank accounts, they seemed to be in the pocket of the Water Companies, not the People.

    Nationalise the lot of them.

What are these bastards doing with our personal details? Sharing them out by the look of things. And then being (predictably) untrustworthy and generally inept with them.
