Ik kies waarschijnlijk voor Spellbound (1945) die om dezelfde tijd bij Arte wordt uitgezonden.

Alleen wel de versie die ik bij YouTube tegenkwam... Dat Duits ligt me niet zo bij een Amerikaanse film. 🙃😇

  3. A #rebus is a #wordplay #puzzle combining images and letters to represent a word or phrase.

Words are represented by combinations of pictures and letters; for instance, "apex" might be represented by a picture of an ape followed by a letter X.

Moving left to right "say" the images in English and mix in the letters to complete the answer.

  4. Me, reading a toot that uses a word in an unfamiliar way: Typo. No, wait. This person is an expert in their field so maybe that’s a reserved word in their profession. Interesting. What might it mean in the sentence and context of that industry? Or maybe it’s a borrowed word from popular culture that’s a meme now, and they used it ironically. Well, I have no idea about popular culture right now, thankfully. Maybe I’ll look it up in both contexts.

Them, responding to 329 comments of “Fix your typo!” several hours later: Sorry folks. Autocorrect fail.

  5. The BBC are "very compliant to Israel" about Gaza & won't allow the word "genocide".

In Francesca Albanese's report on western media's pro-Israel reporting, the BBC was the worst, camouflaging Israeli responsibility in 83% of headlines.

"BBC presenters dismissed assertions that Israel was committing genocide while not reporting Israeli leaders’ genocidal statements”.

  8. One of the things you realize when you read a lot of research is that academics like to use a lot of weird words to describe things (to sound more accurate). Current example: kids don't "hang out"; they do "offline unstructured socializing".

  9. Writing, for me, is not about putting words together in an interesting way. That’s poetry. For me, writing is putting thoughts together in an interesting way, that can provide insight in a way that others can understand. Which is also poetry. Fiction is about discovering why people act the way they act by putting them in situations that force them to act. Writing is about thoughts, not language.

    Consciousness is a wild ride.

  10. A generative path that's too confident produces hallucinations — it fills in gaps with plausible-sounding words that have nothing to do with what was said. That's the failure mode I'm most worried about in the whole system, because it's the failure that's invisible to the speaker. They said something real. The machine substituted something invented. And the listener has no idea.

The safeguard is that the generative path has to be consistent with the phoneme evidence.

The word “algorithm” is derived from the family name of Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, a Persian who lived in Baghdad and not only wrote down the instructions for what we now call “long addition” and “long multiplication” etc. — the instructions that European schools used for the subsequent 400+ years — but also…

…invented algebra. You know, nbd, just a Persian-Arab thing.

“Don’t do science?” The Islamic world •gave Europe science•, you dimwit. Not that RFK would know science if it came up and bit him.

  14. Twelve years ago, I built a little app to convert Word documents to Markdown. It's busier now than ever, mostly with people who noticed their chatbot gives better answers when they paste in plain text.

To a model, bold 14-point text isn't a heading, and a typed "1." isn't a list. Your documentation quality is your AI quality now.

The playbook, plus two free converters that run entirely in your browser (word2md.com and md2word.app):

  17. After reading a few replies on the topic of voice, I started thinking about words I’ve stopped using, words I love, words fast disappearing.

I love “pulchritude” and “gloaming” but when I use them I get a look. What are your words that fit this category?

    No. Words.

  19. I really wish people in IT would take a deep breath and think twice before using words such as "10x" and "AI" in contexts outside of their work. You're not going to "10x" bridge-laying even if use "leverage AI" in the most efficient manner. You can't download a bridge model from printables.com ya know. You can barely 1.1x your own database migrations, maybe start by focusing on that instead?

  20. What Is Gnosis? The Meaning of Spiritual Knowledge in Ancient Gnosticism

Gnosis is the Greek word for knowledge, but in several late antique religious texts it means more than learning facts. It can refer to recognition of one’s divine origin, knowledge of God, or insight that enables return from ignorance and estrangement. Modern readers of
