Zentrales Thema von „Zuma“ ist die Liebe – verlorene Liebe. Bewältigung des Vergangenen, das Wiederfinden der eigenen Persönlichkeit und vorsichtiges Suchen nach neuer Bindung. Das Stadium von Schmerz und Verzweiflung ist überwunden. Young äussert sich in milder Resignation, ein wenig Wehmut klingt an, und es gelingen ihm sogar ein paar Stücke von bemerkenswert aggressiver Verärgerung.
