I'm @[email protected] in yet another Sisyphean task to find an alternative #Fediverse instance as Calckey is facing lots of Bad Gateways and, as of recently, an annoying influx of spam (which also ends up contributing to the Bad Gateways). Seems like Ruud (Calckey admin) didn't see my report regarding the latter, and this worries me as this means that server could be seen as "unmoderated" and defederated by other instances I interact with. I'm yet to see how federated is this Catodon instance, because other Misskey-like instances I tried in the past (such as Evil Social) had little to no federation with Lemmy instances.

As this is my first post for this account, I'll try to describe the kind of content I'm used to post in the next paragraphs (while also testing how similar this instance is to the Calckey instance I'm used to).

I often post my #digitaldrawings and other kinds of #occult #art centered on my actual beliefs. My #artistic expressions, which mostly stems from actual #gnosis, sometimes manifest as #poetry and/or #Blender #3dmodeling scenarios and/or #memes and/or #code (because I'm also a #dev who codes in several #programming languages, including #javascript, #ruby and #python, and I use #arch #linux, btw). Many of my artistic expressions, particularly my #drawings and my #writings, are NSFW and will be labeled as so. Oh, sometimes I do ancient writing, too, including actual attempts on Sumerian texts (based on actual, available Sumerian Lexicons). And I sometimes do #steganography as well (I'm quite fond of things such as #math #puzzles and hidden messages; and, no, this post has no hidden message, I'm quite in a mental budget here). I'm a detail-oriented person, as you may notice from this post alone.

As for my beliefs, I have a syncretic worship for #Lilith Who, I believe, has the same cosmic principle that from #Ereshkigal, #Kali, #Hecate, #Pombagiras (esp. Dama da Noite and Rosa Caveira), among many other names across belief systems, as my syncretism is based on several belief systems such as #Thelema, #Luciferianism, #Gnosticism, #Hermeticism, #Sumerian, #Egyptian, #Quimbanda and others. I also believe in other entities, not with the same worshiping, but with similar respect for #Lucifer, #Baphomet and #Stolas (I don't agree with the Goetian approach of constrained summoning, for Stolas and other Daemons are cosmic teachers who deserve our due respect).

I've been hyper-fixated on #owls, especially some #owl species such as Athene cunicularia (burrowing owls), _Bubo ascalaphus (Pharaoh Eagle-owl), because owls are one of the main theophanic manifestations of the #goddess. See the taxonomic binomials? Yes, I often do this bizarre intertwining between the religious and the scientific, because I don't believe in siloed knowledge.

I'm mostly #nihilist and #pessimist with certain inspiration from philosophers such as Philipp Mainländer. I may sound depressive (do I sound this way in this post? It doesn't seem so) because I am depressive since my childhood and, yes, I tried mental health care to no avail (psychiatrists can't understand, for example, how #Demiurge and his archons sucks and how the Goddess is our true cosmic Mother).

Het scheiden der wegen

Het is niet voor het eerst dat ik schrijf over het scheiden van de wegen van joden en christenen. Voor negentiende-eeuwse christenen was dat simpel: er was een Oud Verbond en omdat de joden Jezus van Nazaret niet hadden erkend als messias, was er een Nieuw Verbond, waarin de joden als verbondsvolk waren vervangen door de christenen. En voor joden was het ook al simpel: christendom was monotheïsme voor de export, maar niet het onversneden echte spul. Beide groepen – de negentiende-eeuwse christenen en de negentiende-eeuwse joden – claimden het tempeljodendom als hun eigen erfgoed en meenden dat de andere religie zich van de rechte leer had afgesplitst.

De geschiedenis van het christendom werd lange tijd eigenlijk even simpel voorgesteld. Ooit was er een zuivere kerk geweest, waar links en rechts aftakkingen van waren, met één orthodoxe stroming die in een rechte lijn vanaf de apostelen ging naar het eigen kerkgenootschap.

Al in de negentiende eeuw stond vast dat het complexer was. De Dode Zee-rollen en de publicatie van vroegchristelijke bronnen hebben dat bevestigd. Ik verzorg over deze materie weleens een cursus, en onlangs maakte ik daarbij het schema dat u hierboven ziet. Het is in deze vorm gemaakt door Kees Huijser, die wel vaker het grafische werk voor deze blog verzorgt. Ik beweer niet dat dit overzicht correct is; er is geen verband of lijn die niet ook anders kan zijn; maar het schema helpt om de stof te ordenen.

Pluriform jodendom

Helemaal links ziet u de situatie rond het jaar 150 v.Chr. In zijn Joodse Oorlog en Joodse Oudheden gebruikt de Joodse geschiedschrijver Flavius Josephus ongeveer dit moment om de stromingen te introduceren die volgens hem het normale jodendom vertegenwoordigen: de farizeeën, de sadduceeën en de essenen.

Het is plausibel dat deze drie stromingen ontstonden door het conflict dat ligt besloten in de Dode Zee-rol die bekendstaat als 4QMMT, “Enige werken der Wet”. Volgens een mogelijke interpretatie richtte de auteur zich tot hogepriester Jonathan, om hem te waarschuwen voor de eerste farizeeën (“Belialsoverleg”) en te brengen tot de juiste, vroeg-sadducese opvattingen. Toen de hogepriester niet akkoord ging, splitste de groep rond de auteur van deze brief zich van de sadduceeën af en vormde de groep van de essenen. Althans, dat is een mogelijk scenario, dat is gebaseerd op de aanname dat de Dode Zee-rollen door de essenen zijn geschreven. Dat is maar de vraag.

Als deze aanname correct is, zijn er ook meerdere esseense groepen geweest; de Dode Zee-rollen documenteren verschillen in opvatting en verschillende woonplaatsen. Ook de farizeeën waren verdeeld; vanaf het begin van de jaartelling waren er twee hoofdstromingen. De sicariërs, waarvan nogal eens wordt genegeerd dat ze ook niet-joodse leden hadden, waren overigens een farizese afsplitsing. De meeste joodse stromingen overleefde de ondergang van Jeruzalem in 70 niet.

Het scheiden der wegen

De Jezusbeweging kende ook twee takken, waarvan de joodse tak is vertegenwoordigd in de Didache (al zijn er andere interpretaties) en de niet-joodse in de brieven van Paulus en de evangeliën. Die zijn geschreven rond 70 (Marcus) en in de generatie er na. Er zijn geleerden die het evangelie van Johannes dan weer heel vroeg plaatsen en beweren dat dat “een game-changer” is, maar ik geloof er helemaal niks van. Ik noem het echter om nog eens te benadrukken dat het schema ook maar een vereenvoudiging is, ja een oververeenvoudiging.

Meer oververeenvoudiging: Jochanan ben Zakkai organiseerde het rabbinaat en baseerde zich daarbij op een van de twee farizese stromingen. Helemaal onwaar is het niet, maar het rabbijnse jodendom dat zo kwam te ontstaan, heeft bredere wortels dan alleen het farizeïsme. De optekening van de Mishna, een verzameling rabbijnse wijsheid, toont dat joods leven mogelijk is in een samenleving die niet joods is. Er zijn geen Joodse machthebbers, met andere woorden – een gevolg van de opstand van Bar Kochba. Na 136 na Chr. moest men achttien eeuwen wachten voor een nieuwe Joodse staat in het land van Israël.

Die Bar Kocha-opstand had een einde gemaakt aan de joodse christenen. Althans, daarvoor zijn aanwijzingen. Het is weer niet zo zeker allemaal. Wat wél zeker is, is dat op dat moment de rabbijnse joden en de christenen al uit elkaar aan het gaan waren. De door de Romeinse keizer Domitianus met ongebruikelijke hardheid geïnde belasting die bekendstaat als Fiscus Judaicus speelde daarbij een belangrijke rol, maar er waren meer factoren, waarover discussie bestaat.

Pluriform christendom

De andere, niet-joodse christenen waren verdeeld over allerlei oriëntaties en ideeën, die ik in dit schema achterwege heb gelaten. Egypte was een fabriek aan nieuwe opvattingen. In de tweede helft van de tweede eeuw organiseer Eirenaios van Lyon het nieuwe geloof, en zijn opvattingen staan aan het begin van de proto-orthodoxie.

Er zijn op dat moment andere opvattingen. Montanisme, die het martelaarschap verheerlijken; gnostici, met een complexe mythe en eigen teksten, bekend uit Nag Hammadi. En er zijn nog meer opvattingen, die we niet altijd even goed kennen. De meeste mensen die Christus vereerden, deden dat in combinatie met de oude goden, en de scheiding van het langzaam groeiende rabbijnse jodendom was ook niet scherp. Over deze ideeën zijn we slecht geïnformeerd omdat latere, orthodoxe kopiisten dit materiaal zelden kopieerden. De keuze van Constantijn

De bekering van Constantijn betekende dat het exclusivistische christendom (dat stelde dat als je Jezus vereerde, je hem als enige godheid aanvaardde en dus niet, zoals in de Oudheid gewoon was, de nieuwe god combineerde met de verering van de andere goden) de wind in de zeilen kreeg. Iets preciezer: binnen dit exclusivistische christendom steunde hij de proto-orthodoxe groep. Met het Concilie van Nikaia, dit jaar zeventien eeuwen geleden, werd dit de staatskerk van het Romeinse Rijk.

Was de proto-orthodoxie de belangrijkste groep binnen het derde-eeuwse christendom, en was Constantijns specifieke keuze daarom voorspelbaar? Of was de proto-orthodoxie een van de vele christelijke oriëntaties, en was zijn keuze persoonlijk? Ik voor mij denk het laatste, maar er zijn geleerdere mensen die denken dat het proto-orthodoxe christendom dominant was, en sommigen denken dat die dominantie begon met Eirenaios, anderen denken dat het al eerder het geval was.

Wat ik maar zeggen wil: dit schema is handig voor onderwijsdoelen, en wat mij betreft mag iedereen het gebruiken. Als je er maar bij zegt dat elk aspect discutabel is.
