  1. It might be me losing patience, but I do feel that in the last few years, in addition to just having an ongoing reviewer shortage, those who agree to do reviews are becoming more pedantic, nitpicking, assholish, and mean.

  3. I often wish people (myself included) were better at communicating and articulating what they mean, or at least be able to check themselves out and be able to just ask (and get a calm reply to), "What did you mean by that?" for the frequent failure of the first option.

  4. A major challenge in writing in the first person is, figuring out how not to start every paragraph with "I".

  5. At some point, a colleague made the argument to me that researchers who excel despite being from poor/weak/small institutes get a bit of a prestige boost because of the Handicap Principle - demonstrating a costly signal no one can bluff.

  7. This is hardly news to anyone who has had someone with it in their family, but anxiety disorders do not contribute to marital satisfaction. But it goes both ways; relationship dissatisfaction can trigger anxiety disorders.
