🎤 HEUTE – Öffentlicher Vortrag über Astronomie mit Gravitationswellen in Dresden ✨

Michèle Heurs von der @unihannover hält einen spannenden öffentlichen Abendvortrag zum Thema „Gravitationswellen-Astronomie – quo vadis?“ auf der Frühjahrstagung der @DPGPhysik in Dresden.

Der Vortrag (in deutscher Sprache) beginnt um 19:00 MEZ im Audimax im Hörsaalzentrum (Bergstr. 64, 01069 Dresden) der @tudresden.

The year 2025 brought #SECUSO many new things: In addition to four new employees and numerous new student assistants who joined our team in 2025, we also expanded our societal #outreach with the citizens' panel “Wir forschen Digital”. Since November 1, citizens from Karlsruhe are able to register for participation in #research studies. Two major events have dominated most of the year: Until May, we prepared the evaluation of the Topic Engineering Secure Systems as coordinator of the Human and Societal Factors research group. In October, we helped organize the International Conference on Electronic Voting, followed by the Dagstuhl Seminar on “#Trustworthy Evidence-Based Elections”. We were also active in the area of research and #teaching: a total of 24 scientific #publications, in particular on the topics of #security notifications and #Phishing were published this year and we supervised a total of nine theses on various topics. We might not have a second life, but what if I told you there was a second internet? Not the deep web, but another web that we engage with nearly every day?

Think about it, that QR code you scanned for more information? That payment link you followed on your electricity bill? The website you’re told to visit at the end of a television ad?

The antipodes of the internet are these terminal endpoints, material and not necessarily material objects that represent the end of the freely navigable web — the QR code on a concert poster is the web printed onto the physical world. There is every chance it will be scanned and followed by someone from a mobile device, but it’s a transient object, something that will exist for a short amount of time, and then disappear into the palimpsest of the poster board or wall it was pasted on until it eventually disappears.

This is part of the materiality of the internet that has long fascinated me. Perhaps it comes from being a student of material culture, but if we look around, we see the Internet everywhere!
