The first thing is that the state of Guile's community is much better than that of Kawa (because the latter seems largely non-existent), which also entails a better documentation.
Because of the JVM overhead, Guile also has better performance and less quirks (e.g. tail calls aren't always optimized in Kawa unless you force the compiler, which comes with a performance pentaly; also, Kawa only supports a subset of call/cc equivalent to Guile's call/ec, and the treatment of multiple values in Kawa is somewhat inconsistent; also I think that Kawa's module system doesn't allow for arbitrary renaming of bindings)
There is a suite of Scheme benchmarks available here: https://ecraven.github.io/r7rs-benchmarks/
Some 15 years ago Per Bothner also made a benchmark of JVM languages, and Kawa seems to be as good as it gets on the JVM:
https://per.bothner.com/blog/2010/Kawa-in-shootout/
(I don't know how it would cooperate, say, with GraalVM)
Guile has a good C interoperability, and Kawa has a great JVM interoperability.
Actually, the development of Kawa was somewhat related to that of Guile - some history can be found here: https://www.gnu.org/software/kawa/internals/history.html
Guile comes with an object system called GOOPS, which is heavily inspired by Common Lisp's CLOS (with support for generics/multimethods), whereas Kawa provides a way of defining Java classes.
I have used Guile a lot for some time, but to me the type annotations provided by Kawa are huge asset, and I think that every Scheme should have something like that (I think Bigloo does, but I never actually tried it).
I wrote some more specific things about Kawa under the #PlottingScheme hashtag on this instance (functional.cafe), so you may want to check it out.

Recently I learned to tap into the Excessive Energy from Strong Emotions. I now get tired more easily (especially after I've abandoned coffee), but I preserve more of the momentum for tasks and less room is left for rumination or distraction.

I painted some of the best invertebrates: springtails (class Collembola). No longer considered insects, these hexapods are named for a tail-like appendage (called a furcula) that is held under tension beneath the abdomen. When it is released, the furcula springs against the ground and sends the little guy flying. Who needs wings? (Or external mouth parts, which is what differentiates these hexapods from true insects.)

Two thrilling walks over the weekend. First was over Hart Fell near #Moffat and along the narrowest ridge line I’ve followed. Yesterday was Grey Mare’s Tail, then around the horseshoe above it.
Fun fact: Grey Mare’s Tail is so called because the drive from Edinburgh is an absolute ‘mare.

Calling it a tail did not make it one.

Just learned that when a book is standing up right the bottom side is called "tail". And I think that is kinda silly to call that side the tail and not the thing you use to mark the page you paused reading on.

"Most of what we call #history is the close study of tail events that *really* are interesting because of the scale of mortality, the spectacular nature of the failure, the nature that disasters are not evenly distributed."

Although called foxes, the family's appearance was unusual...
✨The father had fur of glistening white needles and a glowing tail just like a 5-pronged vajra (金剛杵).
🦌The mother had the slender neck and head of a deer, and the body of a regular fox.

Hairy curtain crust mushroom (Stereum hirsutum) sometimes called false turkey tail is a small mushroom with colorful caps, no stipe and a smooth poreless undercap. Here I have a photo of a clump of wet caps showing the color striation, and a photo of one just growing out of the dead branch, showing its coarse hairs.

Former TAIL Crewmate here
We've found a couple more pictures with a note they be shared for something called #FursuitFriday.
No idea what it means, but take a look at the many otherworldly Crewmates that made it to #BLFC2024

I spent the tail-end of last week defining a new tech stack called TERN. Well, it didn't take long to swap the "M" in #MERN to a "T" for #Tigris 😊
It didn't take much longer to port the existing MERN stack example over to TERN ⚡️
Here's the write-up https://www.tigrisdata.com/blog/tern-stack/

That we have to call out the merit of this paper is just the tail end of the problem - It is now well evidenced that wildlife crossing structures paired with exclusion fencing reduce wildlife vehicles collisions while facilitating wildlife connectivity across roadways. Managing animal mortality and subpopulation connectivity is crucial to successful species and landscape stewardship. https://peerj.com/articles/14371/ #Highways #Wildlifecrossings #animalmortaility #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRights

Oh that's just cool right there
Fully automatic Jenkins Configuration as Code that deploys Wanderland.
Wanderland eating its own tail, custom agent & controller images built using Wanderland's core, routes that can be consumed by Rack or Commander. HTTP or CLI, whatever you need at the moment.
Jenkins eats a CasC config that includes a templated job so I can bootstrap everything in one go, completely in configmaps. Add a job to projects.yml, bare minimum to get the repo down and setup external context for Jenkins itself. Jenkins handles ephemeral pods with whatever version of Wanderland you need baked in.
Need a job, push rebuild when you need to, it hot reloads itself. Run your own or share, they're not /that big/ when they're just launchers :)
Wanderland bootstraps from YAML with the routes and tools your project needs inside, maybe a bit of Ruby if one of the packs doesn't cover it. `#call` and helpers.
Neat

I call it the Mullet Workbench. Business up front, party in the back.
It’s not done. And has some Problems. I need to flush it up and install the leg and tail vises, and a cabinet. But after three months of work this feels like a milestone. It’s level and square-enough. And weighs 190lbs. Whew.

They're calling it the "last titan" of Thailand. The sauropod — an herbivore with a long neck and tail — comes from the late Early Cretaceous period, some 100 to 120 million years ago. #news #NPR https://www.npr.org/2026/05/14/nx-s1-5819740/dinosaur-thailand-sauropod-giant-asia-paleontology
