  1. Club members walked from Glen Isla over the #Monega path to #Munro Glas Maol last Sunday (19th April). A mostly sunny day but still with a bitterly cold westerly wind (windchill well below 0C).
Still extensive snow patches, especially on the west and north flanks of Glas Maol.
Coach awaited us at the #Glenshee ski centre (use of the coach makes these through walks possible).

  8. Trip up Meall Na Fearna #corbett south of Loch Earn next to Ben Vorlich #munro saw no one on my route, most people were heading up the Munro. Quite a bit of bog at the bealach but could have been worse. Gorgeous day, blue sky & almost summer like warmth. #scotland #hills #hillwalking 🥾

  9. Etiquette question for hill walkers and other normal people.

You are on top of a hill, it is busy and sunny and a few people are taking pictures of each other. You are standing with your family and are about to move away when a person shouts at you "Move back move back" whilst taking a photo of their friend.
    How should you react?

  11. Walking the Coumloughra Horseshoe hike

I’m not much of a hill walker but John Finn is and filmed a walk there, up Carrauntoohil, the tallest mountain in Ireland and onwards. It’s a spectacular walk with breathtaking scenery. John’s video was voted best video of the year by the Mountain Views website (page 58 of the newsletter).

  13. But in the climbing ecstasy of thought,
Ere consummation, ere the final peak,
    Come hours like this…

  14. “In Shepherd’s writing… true learning—like hill-walking—is arduous. True knowledge of the mountains is only possible through the suffering of the body brought on through the relentless motion of the feet.”

  15. I nod and nod to my own shadow and thrust
    A mountain down and down.
Between my feet a loch shines in the brown,
Its silver paper crinkled and edged with rust…

  22. Had a great long ramble in Wild Nephin National Park, County Mayo, yesterday. Mostly blanket bog – messy going after a wet spell – but a mix of other terrains too and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains all the time
